Karine Jean-Pierre dropped a name during a press conference on Thursday that immediately turned heads and earned her some well-deserved criticism.
The press secretary was advising reporters about President Joe Biden nominating Ajay Banga as the president of the World Bank earlier Thursday when she mistakenly announced that former President Barack Obama had made the nomination before she quickly and embarrassingly issued a correction.
“Okay, so today, as you all saw just an hour or so ago, President Obama announced that — um, pardon me, President Biden. Woah! That is news,” she said. “I know. I know. We’re going back, not forwards. We got to go forward.”
Jean-Pierre previously worked in the White House Office of Political Affairs during the Obama administration, and she also played a role in Obama’s presidential campaigns in both 2008 and 2012.
Since January 2021, she has served in the Biden administration as the deputy press secretary, and she has been serving as the press secretary since May 2022. Prior to his presidency, Biden was the vice president during the Obama administration.
Jean-Pierre was taken to task on social media.
