Trump PAC Picking Up Tab For Much of His Legal Expenses: Report

A political action committee associated with former President Donald Trump’s 2024 campaign has been paying for an increasing share of his legal bills, according to the Washington Examiner.

Federal Election Commission filings for the second quarter reveal that the Save America group accumulated a substantial $22 million in cash on hand. In comparison, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis had $12 million.

However, the cash held by the Trump PAC appears to be dwindling rapidly, as reported by the outlet.

As per the Examiner, the most significant expenditure for the Save America PAC was on legal consulting, owing to Trump’s legal challenges. The group reportedly allocated $21 million for legal expenses.

According to a Washington Post report last week, the PAC had anticipated reporting $40 million in legal expenses during the first half of 2023 to support Trump’s defense efforts.

According to GOP consultant Rob Pyers, Trump’s fundraising committees and PACs have accumulated approximately $135 million over the past 18 months. However, they currently have only $32 million remaining.

“Trump’s main fundraising vehicle, the joint fundraising committee, raised $53.9 million in the first six months of the year. It burned $20.5M on operating expenditures (continuing the pattern of high fundraising costs), sent $31.5M to affiliates, and ended w/$5.66 million on hand,” he tweeted on Monday.

But, campaign spokesman Steven Cheung told CNN in a statement, “In  order to combat these heinous actions by Joe Biden’s cronies and to protect these innocent people from financial ruin and prevent their lives from being completely destroyed, the leadership PAC contributed to their legal fees to ensure they have representation against unlawful harassment.”
