Former President and GOP 2024 frontrunner Donald J. Trump offered withering criticism of the Democrat incumbent President Joe Biden following his speech before the United Nations Tuesday to reportedly anemic attendance from prominent world leaders.
Posting to his TruthSocial platform, Trump gave a scathing assessment of what was billed as a major foreign policy moment by the Biden administration. He wrote, “Biden just finished his surrender (‘speech’) at the United Nations, and nobody, despite all we give them, showed up. No respect for America any longer!”
According to Newsmax, Trump’s assessment was somewhat accurate, with French President Emmanuel Macron and even Prime Minister of the U.K. Rishi Sunak staying away from the event. The absence of America’s two most prominent WWII allies and co-founding, permanent members of the U.N. Security Council meant that the U.S. was the sole permanent member in attendance. Chinese President Xi Jinping also skipped the speech, and as expected Russian Federation President Vladimir Putin did not attend.
Richard Gowan, U.N. director for the International Crisis Group, said, “While Sunak and Macron have an excuse, I do think it is telling that they are absent.”
In his remarks transcribed by the White House, Biden told the few world leaders in attendance, notably Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and the Russian ambassador to the U.N.:
“Like every nation in the world, the United States wants this war to end. No nation wants this war to end more than Ukraine.
And we strongly support Ukraine in its efforts to bring about a diplomatic resolution that delivers just and lasting peace.
But Russia alone — Russia alone bears responsibility for this war. Russia alone has the power to end this war immediately. And it is Russia alone that stands in the way of peace, because the — Russia’s price for peace is Ukraine’s capitulation, Ukraine’s territory, and Ukraine’s children.”
Russia believes that the world will grow weary and allow it to brutalize Ukraine without consequence.” He added, “If we allow Ukraine to be carved up, is the independence of any nation secure?”
Biden audibly slurred his speech and appeared to lose his place in his remarks at multiple points.

On Wednesday, Trump again took to his Truth Social account to offer a blistering assessment of the speech. He wrote, “If I would have made that speech yesterday at the United Nations, for all of the World to see, including the HORRENDOUS delivery, I would have been run out of politics! An EMBARRASSMENT to our Country.”
