Trump Lays Out Day-One Border Strategy That Includes New Financial Wrinkle

Former President Donald Trump has a plan to fix the disastrous border issues created by President Joe Biden.

He was in Arizona when an audience member asked him what he would do to stop the illegal immigration crisis, which they mentioned included not only Central America but China and the Middle East.

The former president said that on day one, he would reverse President Biden’s executive orders and then use the financial power of the United States.

“We have tremendous economic power … if China or some other country is behaving badly, we have things called tariffs that are so severe,” the former president said.

“We are going to be so tough, and if a country is not going to behave, we’re going to tariff the hell out of that country,” he said.

He said he was not a fan of President Biden’s new executive order and would eradicate that, too.

“On day one of my administration, I will be rescinding crooked Joe’s outrageous executive order,” he said to the audience as he labeled it a “pro-invasion, pro-child trafficking … pro-drug dealers.”

“And I will terminate every single open borders policy of the Biden administration,” he said.

CNN data reporter Harry Enten reported a significant 30-point shift in favor of former President Donald Trump when it comes to who voters trust to handle the border. Additionally, Enten shared that U.S. voters born outside the country prefer Trump to Biden by a margin of 47-44.

“It is tremendously important. What a difference from where we were four years ago at this point,” Enten told CNN host Kate Bolduan. “So immigration is the nation’s top problem. Back in May of 2020, it was just one percent of voters who said that it ranked 15th on the list of most important problems in the United States. Look at where we are today. In May of 2024, the last poll conducted by Gallup. It is up to 18 percent, so that’s 18 times as high and more than that, it ranks as the second most important problem.

“So we’ve gone from 15th to second. So to me, it is not a huge surprise that President Biden is doing what he is doing because the fact is immigration, is at the top of the mind for the American voter,” Enten continued.

“No matter how you phrase it, you will see that more voters today trust former President Trump over President Biden, but the margins can change depending on how it is,” Enten continued. “So this is a better job on border security and immigration, which tends to be one of former President Trump’s best questions. But I think the key thing here, Kate, to look at is the timeline and look at the trend line here, because back in June of 2020, Biden was actually trusted more on the question of border security and immigration by a single point.

“Look at where we are in May 2024. My goodness, gracious. Look at this huge jump that Donald Trump has made. He is now ahead on this issue by 27 percentage points. So it is not just that immigration is more at the top of voters’ minds than it was four years ago; it is that who they trust on the issue has changed tremendously,” he said.
