Trump, DeSantis Hold Private Meeting In Florida Ahead Of Big Donor Event

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has reportedly met privately with presumptive GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump ahead of an early May donor retreat in Palm Beach, where potential 2024 GOP vice presidential candidates will be discussed.

The Washington Post reported that DeSantis, who was once an ally of Trump but turned into a primary rival, met with him in Miami on Sunday and agreed to help his campaign in some capacity.

According to sources, Trump and DeSantis spoke recently after not communicating since the 2024 primary cycle. The Trump campaign reportedly hopes to leverage DeSantis’ strong donor network, sources told the outlet.

DeSantis suspended his primary campaign after Iowa and immediately endorsed Trump, unlike former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley. He did this before the New Hampshire polls closed.

The reunion was arranged by a mutual acquaintance and Florida real estate broker Steve Witkoff, who contacted the Trump campaign to facilitate the reconnection between DeSantis and Trump, as reported by the Post.

“It’s clear to me that a majority of Republican primary voters want to give Donald Trump another chance,” DeSantis said in a video message. “They watched his presidency get stymied by relentless resistance, and they see Democrats using lawfare to this day to attack him.”

Trump has reconciled with former critics in the past, demonstrating that he is willing to set aside grudges for Republicans who return to support the cause, Newsmax noted.
