Trump Calls On Biden to 'Release' J6 'Hostages' During Fiery Iowa Speech

Former President Donald Trump hit on several familiar themes during a fired-up speech in Iowa over the weekend just days before the first-in-the-country primary, calling on his likely Democratic opponent President Joe Biden to do the right thing when it comes to several people arrested and held for their alleged roles in the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riot.

“And with your help, we’re going to bring back our country. We’re going to bring it back from hell because this country has been in hell. What they’ve done,” Trump said of Biden and his administration.

“You know what they ought to do? They ought to release the J6 hostages. They’ve suffered a lot. They’ve got to release them. I call them hostages. Some people call them prisoners. I call them hostages. Release the J6 hostages, Joe. Release them, Joe. You can do it real easy, Joe. This guy. What he’s done to people,” Trump added.

Late last month, Fox News contributor Charlie Hurt during an interview on Fox Business that GOP voters around the country are, for the most part, angry at the current “political system,” not Trump.

After the host noted that former UN Ambassador (under Trump) Nikki Haley had risen to third place in Iowa, Hurt was asked if it was too late for her, given that she still trails Trump by about 35 points.

” I don’t know if it’s too late or just insurmountable from the beginning,” Hurt began. “At the beginning of all this, it was anybody’s guess whether or not Republicans were exhausted of the Trump thing, everything dealing with Trump. And as it turns out, and it is becoming clear, and has been for a few months now, they’re not.

“They look at the treatment that the political system has given, and the way the political system has treated Donald Trump; they’re appalled with the political system, not Trump,” Hurt continued. “What they want is a fighter, and obviously, the Koch brothers and other huge money donors have gotten behind DeSantis; they will get behind anybody to stand up to Donald Trump because they want a safer pick. They are not as committed to Trump as his supporters are.”
