Study: Networks Cover Cuomo Sexual Harassment Allegations WAY More than NY Nursing Home Deaths

Despite the fact that Governor Andrew Cuomo’s disastrous COVID-19 nursing home policy led to the deaths of thousands of New Yorkers, news networks remain fixated on his growing sexual harassment scandal.

A new study from Newbusters found that “from the first network evening news mention of Cuomo’s nursing home scandal nearly ten months ago (on the May 11, 2020 NBC Nightly News) through Sunday night, the ABC, CBS and NBC evening newscasts have devoted a mere 15 minutes, 35 seconds to the story — most of which came after the January 28, 2021 report by the state’s Attorney General, Letitia James, charging that the Cuomo administration vastly under-reported nursing home deaths.”

Contrast this with the past 11 days, in which the same networks spent a whopping 44 minutes, 14 seconds covering Cuomo’s sexual harassment allegations.

“While both stories painted the Governor and his team in a highly unfavorable light, there’s no question Cuomo administration’s negligent nursing home policies had a much wider and more terrible impact,” writes Newsbusters. “Yet that story was, inexplicably, getting far less attention from the national news networks — even as the overall pandemic had dominated newscasts for a full year.”

Between the growing scrutiny over his nursing home policy and the increasing sexual harassment allegations, Cuomo has come under fire for both scandals in recent weeks—with many, including the New York state Senate Majority Leader calling for the governor’s resignation.

Sales of Cuomo’s book about his leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic have also plummeted and his publisher, Crown Publishing Group announced it has “paused active support” for the book due to the scandals plaguing the governor.

“Pending the ongoing investigation, we have paused active support of ‘American Crisis’ and have no plans to reprint or reissue in paperback,” Crown Publishing Group representative Gillian Blake said in a statement.

Report: Cuomo Admin Being Investigated by U.S. Attorney, FBI Over COVID-19 Response

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo is reportedly being investigated by the US Attorney’s office in Brooklyn and the FBI over his coronavirus task force’s response to the pandemic.

According to the Albany Times Union, the investigation by the U.S. attorney’s office is in its early stages and focuses on the work of “some of the senior members of the governor’s task force.”

The Times Union reports:

Nearly three weeks after the governor’s task force was announced last year, the state health department issued an order directing nursing homes and other long-term care facilities that they must accept residents who were being discharged from hospitals even if they were still testing positive for the infectious disease, as long as they were able to care for them properly.

That directive, which was rescinded less than two months later, has been the focus of a firestorm of criticism directed at Cuomo’s administration, including allegations that the order — which the governor said was based on federal guidance — had contributed to the high number of fatalities of nursing home residents in New York. That assertion was largely dismissed in a report by the Department of Health that was released in July.

In January, New York Attorney General Letitia James issued a report which concluded the Cuomo Administration delayed reporting that thousands of nursing home patients died after getting infected at their facilities and that New York’s nursing home policy may have increased COVID infections.

Last night, CNN issued a statement that it’s host Chris Cuomo, who is the brother of the governor, will no longer be covering the administration after offering the New York leader fawning coverage of his COVID-19 response for months after the pandemic began.

Massive Billboard in Albany Calls on Cuomo to “Resign Now!”

A massive electronic billboard has gone up in Albany, New York calling on Democratic Governor Andrew Cuomo to resign from office.

“Resign now!” is written in large red letters on the billboard along with an image of Cuomo’s face.

The billboard was paid for by Brian Olesen, owner of American Shooter Supply, who originally had the sign say “Impeach!” in a rebuke of the governor’s disastrous COVID nursing home policy which saw roughly 15,000 of the state’s elderly die.

The ad is located off the side of highway 787 in the Albany area, close to the exit leading to the state Capitol building.

“I think that a lot of New Yorkers understand there’s a sense of urgency here in regards to Governor Cuomo. We know he’s a liar, we know he’s a bully. Now he’s being accused of being a sexual predator,” Olesen told the New York Post.

“We have 15,000 fatalities in nursing homes [and other long term care facilities] that he’s lied to us about. When are New Yorkers going to stand up and remove this guy from office?”

Fox News reports:

The Cuomo administration is presently being investigated by federal prosecutors for allegedly withholding data pertaining to COVID-19 deaths related nursing homes and the state Attorney General’s Office is actively seeking a private attorney to lead a probe into the sexual harassment allegations.

A former Cuomo administration economic development staffer, Lindsay Boylan, wrote in a Medium blog post last week that the governor joked that he wanted to play “strip poker” and detailed an instance here he gave her an unwanted kiss.

The governor denied any physical interaction occurred, but he did apologize for workplace comments, arguing that he may have unknowingly took his “jokes” too far.

Olesen is paying $8,500 a month for the billboard and says that he changed the message of the sign from calling for impeachment to telling Cuomo to resign because the impeachment process would take too long.
