Riley Gaines Roasts Jean-Pierre's Response to Question About Biological Men Competing in Women's Sports

Former collegiate champion swimmer Riley Gaines continued her post-career crusade to defend women in sports by taking White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre to task following her remarks Tuesday on the subject.

Jean-Pierre was asked what the Biden administration would say to a father or other parent worried about the safety and privacy of their daughter who is forced to compete and share intimate locker room space with biological males.

The press secretary claimed the reporter was alluding to a narrative that “transgender kids are dangerous,” calling it a “dangerous thing to say” while pushing back on the so-called “broad” example she was provided.

Gaines took to Twitter later in the day to respond.

“When they say ‘inclusion’, just know they really mean exclusion,’” she tweeted.

“The message this sends to ALL women is that our safety doesn’t matter. Nor does our privacy, our fairness, our equal opportunities, or our dignity. The misogyny is slapping us across the face. #SaveWomensSports,” she added.

Last month, Gaines attended the unveiling of the Women’s Bill of Rights legislation by House Republicans on Capitol Hill. Speaking at a press conference, she clarified that the purpose of the bill is to provide a legal definition of the term “woman” in federal law, aiming to reinforce other bills like the recently approved Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act.

President Biden has said he would veto the legislation if it somehow made it through the Democrat-held Senate and to his desk.

During an interview with Fox News Digital in April, shortly after the White House issued a statement criticizing the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act, Gaines argued that Biden’s commitment to vetoing the bill was proof that he was prioritizing a “radical minority” over women all over the nation.

“The President has declared that science, truth, and common sense no longer matter. In opposing this bill, President Biden is catering to a radical minority at the expense of women, who are 51% of the population,” Gaines told the news outlet.

“Equal opportunity, privacy, and safety in our sports shouldn’t be controversial. The women who once advocated for Title IX should be outraged as this goes against everything they fought for. Female athletes of all ages, levels, and sports deserve better,” she added.

In a statement, the White House said it “strongly opposes” the measure on the grounds that it would “deny access to sports for many families by establishing an absolute ban on transgender students.” The statement also said called the measure “discriminatory,” claimed such a law was “unnecessary,” and that it “hurts families and students.”
