Twenty-five percent of illegal immigrants dropped off in the Texas town of Harlingen tested positive for COVID-19, according to a report by the Washington Times.

The Times cites Bill Reagan, director of the homeless shelter Loaves and Fishes, where Border Patrol is dropping off the migrants after catching them.

“We can’t quarantine them,” he told the Harlingen City Commission last week during a meeting. “Even though they test positive, they’re going to leave the next day. They’re going to get on the bus or the airplane, and they’re gone.”

According to Reagan, 25 percent of those in the first group of migrants tested positive for COVID.

In Brownsville, TX, officials say that more than 100 illegal immigrants (roughly six percent) released into their community since January tested positive for COVID-19.

The crisis at the U.S.-Mexico border has grown exponentially since Biden’s inauguration, and over the weekend, Texas governor Greg Abbott announced he was launching “Operation Lone Star” to combat the new administration’s disastrous immigration policies.

“The crisis at our southern border continues to escalate because of Biden Administration policies that refuse to secure the border and invite illegal immigration,” said Governor Abbott over the weekend. “Texas supports legal immigration but will not be an accomplice to the open border policies that cause, rather than prevent, a humanitarian crisis in our state and endanger the lives of Texans. We will surge the resources and law enforcement personnel needed to confront this crisis.”

Abbott says he will use DPS, the Texas National Guard and deploy air, ground, marine and tactical border security assets to high threat areas on the border to keep drug cartels and smugglers at bay.
