Rand Paul Calls For Fauci to be Charged Over COVID-19 Handling, Lying to Congress

Senator Rand Paul slammed Dr. Anthony Fauci over his handling of the COVID-19 pandemic, stating that Fauci should face legal consequences for alleged lies to Congress.

In an interview with Fox News Digital, Paul accused Fauci of covering up the origins of the virus and argued that his actions would be remembered as one of the most egregious public health decisions. Paul specifically mentioned Fauci’s denial of funding gain-of-function research in Wuhan, emphasizing a contradiction with private emails.

Gain-of-function research involves altering microorganisms’ genes to impart new functions or characteristics. In the context of COVID-19, this research explores the virus’s potential origins in a Wuhan laboratory, involving experiments to enhance transmissibility or pathogenicity.

Fauci, in previous congressional testimony, refuted claims that the National Institutes of Health funded gain-of-function research in the Wuhan lab. Paul accused Fauci of lying and highlighted the felony charge for lying to Congress, punishable by up to five years in prison. Fauci recently testified before the House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic in a private session, facing criticism for an alleged lack of recall about early pandemic decisions.

Paul also highlighted that Fauci played semantics with the definition of a “lab leak” and criticized Fauci’s handling of the pandemic guidelines, such as social distancing and quarantine, stating that there was no scientific basis for such measures. Paul intends to pass legislation creating an independent commission to regulate gain-of-function research.
