Planned Parenthood Received $700 Million in Funding Amid Record-High Abortions

A recent report reveals that Planned Parenthood received nearly $700 million in federal funding during a year when the clinic performed a record number of abortions.

The report, titled “Above and Beyond,” highlighted a trend where non-abortion services saw a decline compared to the previous year.

“Since the Supreme Court’s decision to take away the federal constitutional right to abortion, more than 20 states have banned some or all abortions,” the report said. “For Planned Parenthood health center staff, this was a year of moving mountains: finding appointments in other states and the resources to get patients there, building as much capacity as possible for abortion appointments, fulfilling increased demand in some places for birth control, and much more.”

Contraceptive services, cancer screenings, pap smears, adoption referrals, and preventative visits all experienced decreases, while abortions surged by 5%.

The Biden administration’s support for Planned Parenthood’s abortion access intensified following the overturning of Roe v. Wade in 2022.

Vice President Kamala Harris notably visited a Minnesota Planned Parenthood clinic, becoming the first sitting VP to do so.

The administration’s stance on protecting abortion rights sparked controversy, especially with the rise of abortion demand in states with limited access. Planned Parenthood affiliates assisted over 33,000 women in obtaining abortions through financial and transportation aid in such states.

Critics, including pro-life groups and researchers, have condemned Planned Parenthood’s focus on abortion services, emphasizing the disparity between the rise in abortions and the decline in other essential healthcare services.

Tessa Longbons Cox from the Charlotte Lozier Institute criticized Planned Parenthood’s profit-driven approach, highlighting the organization’s abortion-centric priorities.

Despite opposition, the Biden administration’s continued funding of Planned Parenthood has drawn criticism from advocates like Lila Rose, founder of Live Action.

Rose denounced the administration’s support as “grotesque,” arguing that taxpayer dollars should not fund abortions.
