Not A Single Democrat Voted For House Bill To Protect Women’s Sports

On Thursday, the House of Representatives passed a bill aimed at protecting women’s sports by prohibiting transgender female athletes, who were born biologically male, from competing in women’s sports leagues.

The measure is known as the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act of 2023, and it seeks to amend Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 to ensure that only biological females are allowed to participate in women’s sports leagues by prohibiting individuals whose biological sex is male from participating in athletic programs or activities designated for women or girls.

But it passed 219-203 — without a single Democrat voting for it, after spending decades fighting for women’s rights and, ironically, for women to have their own sports leagues and competitions.

“The Democrats have gone to great lengths to call this bill extreme. The Democrats have gone to great lengths, being almost hysterical, to call this bill discriminatory,” Rep. Virginia Foxx (R-NC), the chairwoman of the House Education and Workforce Committee, argued in a floor speech on Wednesday.

“It’s quite telling when the other party attempts to tear things down without offering an alternative vision. Democrats refuse to posit a reason for allowing biological men to compete in women’s sports that comports with principles of athletic competition,” she added.

Those who oppose the inclusion of self-identified transgender athletes in women’s sports leagues argue that men possess inherent physical advantages over women, which could give them an unfair competitive edge. And prior to the far left’s transgender culture craze, that was a well-established fact, hence the creation of separate leagues and competitions for women in the first place.

In recent years, there have been several high-profile cases that have brought attention to the issue of transgender athletes competing in women’s sports. For example, track athlete CeCe Telfer won an NCAA women’s national championship after competing with men in the previous season. Similarly, transgender swimmer Lia Thomas tied with female champion Riley Gaines, and was featured in an ESPN segment honoring Women’s History Month. And biological male MMA fighter Fallon Fox faced criticism after allegedly breaking the skulls of multiple female opponents after transitioning and competing as a woman.

Nevertheless, the legislation was met with opposition from Democrats, who argued that the bill is discriminatory against transgender individuals. Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) spoke out against the bill, stating that “trans kids are all God’s children” and that they belong “in sports, in schools, in books, in families, and on teams.”

The measure now goes to the Senate, which is narrowly controlled By Democrats. It’s not clear that it will pass, but if it does, President Joe Biden has pledged to veto it, and there won’t be enough support in the House or Senate to override — meaning his party will go down on record as having opposed women’s protections and rights.

“The White House recently sparked controversy after senior officials participated in several Transgender Day of Visibility events days after a woman who identified as a man killed three children and three adults at The Covenant School, a ministry of the conservative evangelical Covenant Presbyterian Church in Nashville, Tennessee,” The Daily Wire reported.

“Biden has not met with families of the victims but will host three Tennessee Democrats who were expelled or nearly expelled from the state’s General Assembly for breaking floor rules as they hosted a gun control protest,” the outlet added on Thursday.
