New Poll Shakes Biden Campaign As Most Say President's Fitness Now an Issue

A new survey released late last week is not very assuring for members of President Joe Biden’s 2024 campaign, let alone the president himself.

The most recent national survey conducted for NBC News revealed that over two-thirds (68%) of registered voters expressed moderate to significant concerns about President Biden’s mental and physical health, questioning whether he possesses the necessary qualities to serve as president.

The percentage reflects a 17-point surge compared to the previous survey conducted in October 2020.

According to the new poll, only 32% of voters reported having minimal to no genuine concerns, which indicates a decrease from the 48% of voters who held similar views in October 2020, approximately a month prior to the presidential election in November of that year.

Biden already holds the distinction of being the oldest person to assume his role at the age of 80. If he were to serve a second term, he would reach the age of 86 by the end of it. His occasional instances of losing track of his thoughts while speaking, as well as documented incidents where he has tripped or fallen, have generated concerns regarding his capacity to lead effectively.

Biden said in April that his age doesn’t “register” with him. “I respect them taking a hard look at it — I’d take a hard look at it, as well. I took a hard look at it before I decided to run, and I feel good. I feel excited about the prospects,” Biden said then.

When asked the same question regarding former President Donald Trump, who is currently 77 years old, the survey found that 55 percent of registered voters expressed moderate to significant concerns about his mental and physical health being adequate for the role of president. This figure represents an increase from 51 percent in October 2020. Conversely, 44 percent of voters indicated minor or no genuine concerns, marking a decline from 49 percent in the previous survey.

Trump continues to lead in the 2024 GOP primary polls.

Voters were also asked about their level of concern regarding the re-election and serving another four years in office for either Biden or Trump. The findings showed that 60 percent of respondents expressed moderate to significant concerns about Biden, while 58 percent held similar concerns about Trump. On the other hand, 40 percent of voters reported minor to no concerns regarding Biden, and 42 percent expressed a lack of concern about Trump.

“A hypothetical general election rematch showed Biden ahead with 49% support over Trump’s 45%. The survey also looked at a match-up between Biden and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, showing a 47%-47% tie in the general election,” the Daily Wire reported, citing the survey.
