New Jersey Passes Bill that Requires "Social Justice" and Racism Education in Public Schools

New Jersey lawmakers would like public schools to be held more accountable when it comes to teaching black history. Last month, lawmakers passed a bill that, if signed by Gov. Phil Murphy, would make it a requirement for schools to learn about racism and social justice in order to graduate.

The Philadelphia Inquirer reports:

“Our children will learn about Black history and not just being a slave,” said Assemblywoman Angela McKnight (D., Hudson), one of the bill’s sponsors. “We will know the contributions that Black people continue to do.”

The new law will complement the state’s Amistad law, which requires public schools to incorporate African American history. Her bill will put the Amistad Commission under the state Department of Education, tighten regulations and oversight, and mandate professional development for teachers.

Students in high schools across the region have been pushing for changes this year after the killing of George Floyd by a Minneapolis police officer. They want schools to address systemic racism and implicit bias among staff and students.

New Jersey and Pennsylvania require history to be taught, but districts decide the content of their courses.

Cherry Hill East, a school system noted by the Inquirer as “predominantly white,” would be the first school in the state to mandate the course on African-American history in order to graduate. The course was proposed by the students after a Black Lives Matter protest in the spring.

Pleasantville first-grade teacher Tamar LaSure-Owens, who has been leading a charge to infuse Black history into everyday lessons, believes the latest legislation would help teachers better present historically accurate and culturally sensitive information about all races.

“We need training,’ said LaSure-Owens, who has helped develop a model Black history curriculum at the Leeds Avenue School. “We need a curriculum that we can put our hands on.”

A WHOPPING 56% of Americans Say They are Better off Today (Mid-Pandemic) than Under Obama-Biden

A recent Gallup survey found that a whopping 56 percent of Americans say they are better off now under President Trump–in the middle of a pandemic–than they were four years ago when President Obama was in office.

Gallup writes:

During his presidential campaign in 1980, Ronald Reagan asked Americans, “Are you better off today than you were four years ago?” Since then, this question has served as a key standard that sitting presidents running for reelection have been held to.

Gallup’s most recent survey found a clear majority of registered voters (56%) saying they are better off now than they were four years ago, while 32% said they are worse off.

Gallup compared the 56 percent number to 2012, during the Obama-Biden Administration when just 45 percent of Americans could say they felt they were better off. In 2004, 47 percent of Americans said they were better off and in 1992, that number was at 38 percent.

President Trump responded to the news, writing on Twitter, “The Gallup Poll has just come out with the incredible finding that 56% of you say that you are better off today, during a pandemic, than you were four years ago (Biden). The highest number on record! Pretty amazing!”

Dem Policies Put Lowest Number Of Cops On Streets In Years, Crime Rises 166%

Democratic leadership has been hostile towards police and law enforcement, and the very unfortunate reality is that it is getting their constituents killed. “New York City saw another huge increase in gun crimes last month as the NYPD’s chief of crime control strategies says the agency is coping with the lowest number of cops on the streets in six years,” reports CBS News.

Numbers don’t lie and these are screaming alarm of high murder rates. “The city saw a 166% increase in shooting incidents in August – 242 compared to 91 in August 2019…In addition, murders are up 47% for the month, with 53 this year versus 36 in August 2019” CBS New York reports. “There is too much killing,” said one Brooklyn resident. “I’m tired of it. Every night there’s guns shooting.”

Even Democrats should be able to follow simple math leading to the devastating consequences. “The increase comes as the NYPD has seen a dramatic drop in manpower due to a combination of $1 billion in defund-the-police budget cuts, no overtime, no new police class, and a dramatic increase in the number of police officers retiring” cites CBS.

Michael LiPetri, the NYPD’s chief of crime control strategies, explained the numerical details. “We have calculated that approximately 2,000 to 3,000, maybe even 4,000 fewer officers are out on the streets for any given week” said LiPetri. In areas where crime has dramatically increased has greatly suffered from the lack of police presence. “That’s where the overtime was going last summer. The overtime was going to the most violent commands in New York City” said LiPetri.

Are Cuomo and de Blasio concerned by the consequences of their legislation? No. As a matter of fact, Mayor Bill de Blasio “is putting his faith in community violence interrupters, known as Cure Violence groups” over police forces. “We’ve seen stunning success in the past. We know it will take root here again. But everyone is still trying to come back from massive disruption. We’re not going to see an overnight turnaround” de Blasio said.

However, even the Cure Violence group says of the fighting crime task, “it’s something that we can’t take personal responsibility, which is an entire precinct’s stats. Our work is concentrated in very small target areas” said group member A.T. Mitchell. In essence, de Blasio is saying to those whose neighborhoods are riddled with bullets, “deal with it.”
