Musk-Founded Super PAC Spending Millions to Elect Trump: Report

An Elon Musk co-founded Super PAC is allocating millions for data collection and canvassing in battleground states to ensure Donald Trump’s election victory in November.

America PAC previously operated discreetly until recent media coverage highlighted its distinctive initiatives and prominent supporters, and now the org is in full-swing and all-in for the former president.

In a July interview with Jordan Peterson, Musk emphasized the PAC’s activities, noting that it spent over $20 million since June, according to FEC filings. Notable investors besides Musk include Cameron Winklevoss, Tyler Winklevoss, Joe Lonsdale, and Doug Leone.

One ad from the PAC designed to boost voter registration includes footage of the attempted assassination of Trump on July 13. In the ad, a person shares the video with a friend, urging them to register to vote, and provides instructions on how to do so.

CNBC reported that while the ad promotes the America PAC website, the registration process varies by state. In states like California, users are directed straight to a basic registration form. In contrast, in battleground states such as Pennsylvania, users encounter a more detailed form requesting personal information, but no registration form is ultimately provided.

The America PAC website posted a message this week stating that it was “brought” to its attention that not every user has been completing the voter registration process. “It was brought to our attention on August 2 that some people may have been unable to complete the registration process on this website on August 1 and 2. If you had any difficulty, please try to complete the registration process again or email [email protected] for assistance,” the message states.

America PAC’s emphasis on gathering personal information rather than merely registering voters is driven by its strategy of door-to-door canvassing to support Trump. This method could become more impactful as the election approaches. The regulations governing canvassing for Super PACs allow for more flexibility in coordinating with campaigns.

According to a March FEC advisory opinion, canvassing does not fall under the usual restrictions on direct communication between PACs and campaigns, enabling greater coordination on literature and messaging during these efforts, the report stated.

Musk endorsed Trump via his X platform immediately after the July 13 assassination attempt.
