Lawsuit Alleges New York City Mayor Eric Adams Demanded Sexual Favors During Police Tenure

A lawsuit targeting New York City Mayor Eric Adams has surfaced, alleging disturbing behavior during his tenure as a police officer in the 1990s.

Lorna Beach-Mathura, the accuser, claims Adams demanded “sexual favors” in exchange for assistance with a job-related matter, painting a troubling picture of his past, Fox News reports.

Beach-Mathura recounted facing “resistance all-too-frequently faced by Black and female NYPD … employees” during that era, prompting her to seek Adams’ help. Instead of providing support, Adams allegedly exploited her vulnerability, engaging in coercive behavior and sexual assault.

Sylvia O. Hinds-Radix, representing the New York City Corporation Counsel, denounced the allegations as “ludicrous,” emphasizing Adams’s denial of the claims. Hinds-Radix cited Adams’s previous activism against racism within the NYPD, dismissing suggestions of his involvement in civilian employee promotions.

According to the lawsuit, Beach-Mathura felt compelled to come forward after learning about a law allowing survivors of sexual assault to seek justice years later. She detailed a distressing encounter where Adams purportedly coerced her into a compromising situation, disregarding her refusal and escalating the assault.

Beach-Mathura found Adams’s subsequent mayoral campaign rhetoric “hypocritical and sanctimonious,” underscoring her disillusionment with his public persona. The lawsuit paints a chilling portrait of Adams’s abuse of power, compounded by his role as a law enforcement officer.

Allegations of lewd behavior, including exposure and masturbation, further highlight the severity of Beach-Mathura’s accusations against Adams. Despite her rejection, Adams purportedly persisted, leaving Beach-Mathura traumatized and abandoned.

The lawsuit details Adams’s failure to fulfill his promise of assistance, leaving Beach-Mathura to navigate her employment issue alone. Her departure from city government in 1994 marked the end of her ordeal, as she relocated to Florida, where she pursued a career in education.
