Jubilant Kari Lake Fires Back At Liz Cheney After Threat to Leave GOP: 'Best Gift Ever'

Arizona Republican gubernatorial nominee Kari Lake had some fun with outgoing Republican Liz Cheney after the Wyoming establishmentarian threatened to leave her party.

Cheney, in an appearance Saturday at an event sponsored by the Texas Tribune, a left-wing non-profit outlet, threatened to leave the GOP if former President Donald Trump again becomes the party’s nominee for 2024.

“I’m gonna make sure Donald Trump — I’m gonna do everything I can to make sure he’s not the nominee,” Cheney told Texas Tribune CEO Evan Smith. “And if he is the nominee, I won’t be a Republican.”

Smith then asked Cheney if she has considered running for president herself. “I certainly will do whatever it takes to make sure Donald Trump isn’t anywhere close to the Oval Office,” she responded. “Knowing what I know now, I would not have voted for Donald Trump.”

Cheney then turned her attention to Lake, whose candidacy was endorsed by Trump.

“I’m going to do everything I can to make sure Kari Lake is not elected,” Cheney pledged, according to The Blaze.

“I think we have to do everything we can in ’22 to make sure those people don’t get elected,” she said of both Lake and Pennsylvania GOP gubernatorial candidate Doug Mastriano, who’s also been backed by Trump. “We have to make sure Mastriano doesn’t win.”

Lake gleefully fired back at Cheney during an appearance on Fox News’ “Sunday Morning Futures” with host Maria Bartiromo.

“That might be the biggest, best gift I have ever received,” Lake jokingly said. “I mean, the people in Wyoming can’t stand her, I’m pretty much sure the people of Arizona don’t like Liz Cheney.

“The Republican Party, the new Republican Party, is the party of we, the people,” Lake continued before slamming Cheney again. “It is no longer the party of warmongers.”

“Liz Cheney probably should change her voter registration. Turns out she really is a Democrat after all.”

Lake also ridiculed Cheney’s massive defeat during Wyoming’s GOP primary last month: “She’s putting more energy into electing Democrats than she did into winning her own primary lol.”

Cheney has essentially turned on her party, going after House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) as well.

“At every single moment, when our time of testing came and Kevin had to make a decision … he’s made the politically easy-for-him, or the politically expedient, decision instead of what the country needed,” Cheney said at the festival, The Blaze reported.

She has also vowed to support Democrats for Congress if they are running against Republicans who are backed by Trump.
