Immigrant Tennessee Lawmaker Rips Ousted Democrat Who Says He Called Him a 'Slur'

Tennessee State Representative Sabi Kumar, a Republican who is an Indian-American, criticized one of the Democratic lawmakers who was expelled from the legislature this week after alleging he made racist comments.

Kumar accused Nashville Democrat Rep. Justin Jones, who is black and was expelled this week from the legislature, of making racist remarks against him, calling him a “brown face of white supremacy.” Jones was sent packing in an overwhelming 72-25 vote after participating in last week’s storming of the state capitol building by far-Left gun control activists.

“I am an immigrant, everybody knows. I have been in this country for 53 years, and when it was 50 years, you recognized me for that. It was a celebration in my mind and for my family,” Kumar said. “In those 53 years in America, I have never encountered a racial slur. I’m really not aware that any of that applies to me. I live a good life. Yet you on tape call me a brown face. Yessir, it’s on tape.”

Kumar stated that during a heated exchange, Jones became so aggressive towards him that the sergeant-at-arms of the chamber had to step in to prevent a physical confrontation, reported the Daily Wire.

“You walked up to me, you had no business coming up to me, you were sitting a row or two ahead of me,” Kumar said. “You shoved your finger in my face and said, you shoved your finger in my face and said ‘Kumar, they will never accept you.’”

“You said it twice,” he continued. “And you were so intimidating that the sergeant-at-arms, without my invitation, came and intervened between us. Sir, that is very disappointing.”

“I said that you put a brown face on white supremacy,” Jones later admitted, according to remarks that were quoted by Mediaite. “That’s what I said.”

Resolutions were filed against Tennessee Democratic Reps. Gloria Johnson and Justin Pearson, as well as Jones, on Monday, which resulted in votes for their expulsion.

Johnson, who is white, narrowly escaped expulsion, and she insinuated that race may have played a role in the vote. Meanwhile, during his defense, Pearson invoked race, calling Tennessee Republicans racist and alluding to the “black women who stood at the cross” during the crucifixion of Jesus.

Rep. Gino Bulso (R-Brentwood) said that the Democrats had tried to “shred the [state’s] constitution with a bullhorn” during debate on the resolutions.

The trio were accused of violating a number of legislative rules when they took part in storming the capitol, which Republicans likened to the Jan. 6, 2021, incident at the U.S. Capitol.
