GOP's Abbott, Dem's Cuellar Blast Biden's Senseless Open Border Policies Ahead of Title 42 End

Democrats and Republicans alike are taking aim at President Joe Biden’s destructive open border policies ahead of the end of Title 42 later this week.

On Sunday, Texas Governor Greg Abbott (R) criticized Biden and his administration for their policies that he says have caused the border crisis.

During an appearance on “Fox News Sunday” with host Shannon Bream, Abbott made his remarks after the anchor asked him about comments made by Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, who recently said that the border is closed and that Congress is responsible for the immigration problem.

Bream also mentioned that the White House has been trying to blame Abbott in part for the immigration crisis, claiming that he has sent some undocumented immigrants to blue states, as Texas does not have the resources to handle the influx of illegal migrants.

“Well, first of all, the reason why we are busing those migrants across the country is because small little towns on the border like Del Rio and Eagle Pass, they have no capacity to deal with the number of people coming across the border, and we have to relieve the congestion in those small communities and bus them to larger communities,” Abbott said.

“That said, Shannon, it must be pointed out also, everything that you just said that Mayorkas said is just a flat-out lie or total ignorance. He says that the border is closed. Everybody in America knows that the border is not closed, and it’s more open,” Abbott continued.

He pointed out that the situation with illegal crossings had been mostly addressed during former President Donald Trump’s term, adding “only when Biden came in and eliminated all those policies and put down a welcome back — welcome mat to the entire world that the border is now open, that we suddenly have the chaos that has caused solely by policies put into place by Joe Biden.”

He also laughed off Biden’s deployment of 1,500 active-duty troops to the border, saying they are only going “to do paperwork, and he’s not going to secure the border.”

Meanwhile, Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-Texas), whose district borders Mexico, has also become a frequent critic of Biden’s border policies. He also appeared with Bream on Sunday.

“Surely, we are seeing people coming in, the border is open,” Cuellar began. “There are some policies that, in my opinion, should have been implemented some years ago.”

“We need to have a very simple thing at the border, repercussions. That is people that are supposed to stay here, should be able to stay under the law,” he continued. “And if they have to be returned, they have to be returned quickly. You got to have some repercussions because if you don’t have repercussions at the border, people are going to see the border as a speed bump, and they’ll be coming in at this time. So we’ve got to have repercussions at the border.”

“You know, if you look at the last two years, yes, you’ve had over 4.3 million individuals that have been encountered by Border Patrol. That doesn’t include the getaways,” he said. “At the same time, we’ve had over — I think it’s about 1.2 million individuals so far, and the fiscal year still not over.”

“Right now, the only image that we see is people coming in,” he added. “No images of people going back. So, yes, the American public is frustrated.”
