Gingrich Says Hard Left Doesn't Have 'Political Problem' But a 'Mental Problem' After GOP Pollworker Incident

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich addressed a heated confrontation between a likely Democrat voter and a Republican poll worker that reportedly took place outside a polling center in Virginia on Tuesday.

In a video posted online that went viral, a man dressed in a blue shirt and wearing cargo pants verbally assaults the GOP poll worker, calling him names and making all kinds of wild and nonsensical accusations that had no basis in fact.

“You f***ing people tried to overthrow the election. You might as well have been walking up to my head on the way to the polling station, pointing a gun to my head, and trying to tell me not to vote. You expect me not to take that f***ing personally?” the man said at the beginning of the video, which was taken by the poll worker who maintained his calm throughout the ordeal.

In an interview with Fox News host Laura Ingraham, Gingrich said the left’s biggest problem isn’t political, it’s mental.

“Look, I tell every audience, what you’re seeing on the hard left is not a political problem, it’s a mental health problem,” Gingrich said. “These are people who genuinely are out of touch with reality. They live in a very strange paranoid world.

“They have, you know, I mean, people, for example, who can rally in favor of cutting off the heads of babies, are pretty sick. It’s not just a political argument,” he continued.

“The people you showed a while ago on the floor of the House who were babbling almost incoherently. They are defending a level of terrorism that takes you back to the Middle Ages,” the former Georgia Republican added.

“This is barbaric behavior. And, yet, in their minds, it’s all perfectly appropriate. So, they could easily have been the person walking up to that poll worker in Virginia, and it tells you, I think, how deeply fanatical the hard left has become,” he added.
