Former U.S. Army Secretary Implores Americans, 'Wake Up' to China Threat: 'We're The Underdogs Here'

A former Secretary of the Army has made some shocking statements regarding the rising threat from China, even suggesting that the Asian behemoth could best the United States in a conflict.

Patrick Murphy sounded the alarm about China’s increased military aggression on Sunday during an interview with Fox News. The comments come on the heels of China’s breach of U.S. airspace and territorial sovereignty last week by sending a spy balloon over the country — a balloon that was eventually shot down over the Atlantic Ocean, noting that “we’re the underdog here.” He also noted that the U.S. military also shot down a third “high-altitude airborne object” over northern Canada:

So, when we shot that one down, it was over Canadian airspace. It was an American fighter jet, F-22. But, I think we’re sending the message of what would happen, you know, in Ukraine. Obviously, we had this incredible coalition, as you know, pushing back on the Russian invasion. And I think it’s sending a message, hopefully sending the right message to China that the world will rally around us if they keep messing around it.

What people need to understand in our great country is that we’re the underdog here. We’re a third of their size. And I’m not just talking about geographical and population.

Listen, America at our best is the reluctant warrior, but we’re a warrior. And we need to make sure, when you have less than 1% of the country that’s serving, and you only have 26% of the country that can even serve, because of the obesity crisis in America and some other things, we need to wake up, understand that we have a competitor out there in China that thinks they’re the preeminent power in the world. We don’t want any unnecessary wars. We have to always prepare for the worst.

The U.S. State Department admitted that the Chinese spy balloon Joe Biden allowed to traverse the country last week was scooping up communication signals.

The airship was bristling with antennas and, therefore, likely collecting signals intelligence, according to a U.S. official who added that the administration will “explore” options for actions against Chinese entities involved with launching the balloon and sending it over the country, Breitbart News reported.

The White House has determined that the balloon, which was finally downed off the coast of South Carolina by a U.S. warplane days after crossing the country, was operating with electronic surveillance capabilities that could monitor cell and other signals.

“High-resolution imagery from U-2 flybys revealed that the high-altitude balloon was capable of conducting signals intelligence collection operations,” a State Dept. official said in reference to the Air Force’s high-altitude reconnaissance plane, Politico reported.
