John Fetterman Checks Himself Into Hospital For Depression

Pennsylvania Senator John Fetterman has checked himself into Walter Reid medical center for depression, a statement from his chief of staff said on Thursday.

“While John has experienced depression off and on throughout his life, it only became severe in recent weeks,” the statement adds.

“On Monday, John was evaluated by Dr. Brian P. Monahan, the Attending Physician of the United States Congress. Yesterday, Dr. Monahan recommended inpatient care at Walter Reed. John agreed, and he is receiving treatment on a voluntary basis.”

Fetterman’s wife Gisele tweeted, “after what he’s been through in the past year, there’s probably no one who wanted to talk about his own health less than John. I’m so proud of him for asking for help and getting the care he needs.”

Fetterman was hospitalized last week on Wednesday after feeling lightheaded at a Democrat Party retreat and was examined for symptoms of a seizure. He was brought to George Washington University Hospital in DC.

Fetterman has downplayed his health problems in the past. After suffering a stroke last year, Fetterman uses closed-captioning technology that allows him read along to what others are saying. In an interview before the November midterms, Fetterman struggled to say that he was “fit to serve.”

“I’m sitting within a chair with you right now to have this conversation,” he told Costa, “and really just address the fact that I’m absolutely sit [sic] to serve.”

The decision to let Fetterman run in the first place was lambasted by comedian Joe Rogan, who said that Fetterman’s mental state is “clearly compromised.”
