Federal Prosecutor Who Charged J6 Protestors Blasted For Refusing To Charge Stephen Colbert Staffers

The Biden administration is being accused again of having massive double standards and politicization of the Justice Department.

On Tuesday, reports noted that the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Washington, D.C., announced that it would not seek to prosecute nine members of late-night TV host Stephen Colbert’s staff for allegedly trespassing on the grounds of the U.S. Capitol.

According to a statement from the attorney’s office, per Fox News:

“After a comprehensive review of all of the evidence and the relevant legal authority, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia has determined that it cannot move forward with misdemeanor charges of unlawful entry against the nine individuals who were arrested on June 16, 2022 at the Longworth Office Building.

“The individuals, who entered the building on two separate occasions, were invited by Congressional staffers to enter the building in each instance and were never asked to leave by the staffers who invited them, though, members of the group had been told at various points by the U.S. Capitol Police that they were supposed to have an escort.

“The Office would be required to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that these invited guests were guilty of the crime of unlawful entry because their escort chose to leave them unattended. We do not believe it is probable that the Office would be able to obtain and sustain convictions on these charges. The defendants no longer will be required to appear for a scheduled hearing in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia on July 20, 2022.”

The decision not to charge Colbert, a left-wing entertainment figure, after his staffers were repeatedly informed they couldn’t be on grounds, drew a lot of criticism.

“Fox News is told the Capitol Police are upset about the decision to drop the charges, especially since the Colbert 9 were told on multiple occasions they weren’t supposed to be there,” the network stated.

“Sources close to the Capitol Police also tell Fox this undercuts law enforcement as they try to secure the Capitol complex after the riot,” the report continued.

Conservatives also blasted the administration — and the U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia, Matthew Graves, appointed last year by President Biden — for failing to prosecute Colbert’s staffers for the same crime of trespassing that most Jan. 6 protesters who went inside the Capitol face.

“Is he giving those guys the same treatment?” Fox News host Jesse Watters asked on Monday night’s edition of his program, where he discussed the decision with American Majority founder and CEO Ned Ryun.

“It’s unbelievable hypocrisy by Graves,” Ryun began. “You’re right, he is prosecuting the January 6 protesters and to highlight the hypocrisy more than 200 people have been charged, have pled guilty to parading on January 6  which is a petty offense class B misdemeanor even though they walked through open doors, in front of police, were not asked to leave yet Graves has actually recommended charges and sentencing of 60 to 90 days in jail.”

“But not of Colbert,” he continued. “It was unlawful entry misdemeanor, it’s all been dropped, it could have been up to 180 days in jail but Graves didn’t think that it was worth pursuing, because again Jesse, I think this highlights what I think a lot of people are starting to realize but I want to make this point, we have a bifurcated legal system here in this country in which if you have the wrong political views or the wrong political connections, you have the book thrown at you but if you have the right connections, everything gets dropped, and it’s just a shrug as you walk away.”

He added that “this is a serious problem in this country because one of the fundamental foundational aspects of our republic is the equal application of the law where all stand equal before the law, the law’s equally applied, but when the law becomes a political tool to punish political enemies, all bets are off.”

Former President Donald Trump also responded on his Truth Social platform.

“Wow! Prosecutors have just dropped all charges against ratings challenged Colbert Show staffers, who entered the Capitol illegally, disregarded police warnings, wouldn’t leave the premises, and were very loud and disruptive late into the evening, with no security present as is mandated by law. These Radical Left lunatics, from a failing show, were treated so differently than the Unselects are treating so many of our great American Patriots,” he noted on Tuesday.
