Federal Probe Into Hunter Biden Said to Have Reached 'Critical Stage'

The nearly four-year-old federal investigations into the activities of Hunter Biden are now said to be entering a “critical phase,” according to a source cited by Fox News.

The network reported Wednesday that federal investigators are said to be considering a number of charges against the first son related to his past business dealings and personal activities, including a gun violation.

“The source told Fox News on Wednesday that Weiss and Justice Department officials were looking into whether to charge Hunter Biden with various tax violations and, more seriously, possible foreign lobbying violations. The source said Hunter Biden could face possible false statements charges,” Fox News reported, adding that the current grand jury session is ending, however, with no charges being filed as of yet.

The outlet notes further:

Fox News first reported in December 2020 that Hunter Biden was a subject/target of the grand jury investigation, according to a well-placed government source. According to the source, a “target” means that there is a “high probability that person committed a crime,” while a “subject” is someone you “don’t know for sure” has committed a crime.”

The federal investigation into Hunter Biden was predicated, in part, by Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs) regarding suspicious foreign transactions.

Another source familiar with the investigation told Fox News in December 2020 that the SARs were regarding funds from “China and other foreign nations.”

Interestingly, even CNN’s Jake Tapper discussed the most recent developments with guests on Wednesday, as noted by former Trump White House special assistant Steven Cheung.

“BREAKING: Even @CNN can’t deny Hunter Biden is in serious trouble. Sources: Federal investigators have reached a critical decision point on charging Hunter Biden. Tax violations, gun charges, lying to authorities and possible money laundering, campaign finance, foreign lobbying,” he tweeted along with a clip of Tapper discussing the developments.

“CNN noted that the Department of Justice was considering whether it could bring charges right now due to a department policy about not bringing political sensitive cases with two months of an election. However, the report added that the ‘unwritten rule’ may not even be a factor since Joe Biden is not on the ballot,” The Daily Wire reported.

Republicans have been investigating Hunter Biden’s various activities for nearly as long as the federal government has reportingly been investigating, and none more so than Sens. Ron Johnson of Wisconsin and Charles Grassley of Iowa. The two released an extensive report regarding their findings in March that also included alleged ties to foreign business dealings involving several Biden family members.

In a statement in March, Grassley said of his and Johnson’s findings:

We started this investigation last Congress, when I was Chairman of the Finance Committee and Senator Johnson was Chairman of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee.

It began in August of 2019, when I started an inquiry into a transaction involving Hunter Biden that was reviewed by the federal government’s Committee on Foreign Investment.

On September 23, 2020, Senator Johnson and I released our report.

On November 18, 2020, we released our supplement to that report.

Those reports were based in large part on Obama administration government records and almost a dozen transcribed interviews of government officials.

In both reports, we made financial information public that hadn’t been known before.

Our report exposed extensive financial relationships between Hunter and James Biden and Chinese nationals connected to the communist regime.

More precisely, these were Chinese nationals connected to the Chinese Government’s military and intelligence services.

The Daily Wire added that the latest news regarding potential criminal charges against Hunter Biden did not mention information stemming from another report earlier this month suggesting the president’s sone may also face federal prostitution charges.
