Democrats Beginning To Worry About Third-Party Candidates Like RFK Jr.: Analysts

Democrats are starting to panic, believing that third Party candidates like RFK Jr. could be what ends the presidency of President Joe Biden.

Andrew Walworth spoke with Real Clear Politics co-founder Tom Bevan and Washington bureau chief Carl Cannon about a New York Times story that said Democrats are starting to take the threat of RFK Jr. seriously.

“There’s no question when you look at these states, and even nationally, where RFK is getting 15% of the polls. In some battleground states, he’s getting anywhere from 10-15 or 20%. When more candidates are added to the mix, it seems to be hurting Joe Biden more than Donald Trump. I don’t think there is any question that Democrats are taking this seriously,” Bevan said.

“They’ve hired Liz Smith, who worked for Pete Buttigieg, to run a war room. It’s going to be a big focus of theirs. And it’s not just RFK — any of these other candidates, Cornel West and Jill Stein, are smaller threats, but still. And of these votes not going to Biden is a problem,” he said.

“Do you guys think ‘No Labels’ ultimately is going to field a candidate? Then you’re talking about some of these ballots with six names on it. Five out of six of them are names people might have heard. It’s been a while since this country had a presidential election like that,” Cannon said.

“My guess is they are going to field a candidate only because they’ve invested this much time and energy in the process so far,” Walworth said.

“And we’ve invested so much time and energy talking about what ‘No Labels’ is going to do,” he said.

But Bevan saw it another way.

“I actually think the opposite,” he said. “I don’t know how they’re going to find someone who is going to join this race and not hurt Joe Biden, which they promised they would not do. Trump supporters are just so locked in… that it really is hard to see anyone they could put on the ballot who could draw votes away from Trump instead of Biden.”
