Dem Presidential Contender: It's 'Delusional' To Believe Biden Can Beat Trump

A Democratic congressman who has stepped in to challenge President Joe Biden for the party’s 2024 nomination said anyone who believes the current commander-in-chief can once again defeat former President Donald Trump is “delusional.”

Rep. Dean Phillips of Minnesota, in a Saturday morning tweet, cited Biden’s cratering polling numbers and included a story by Politico detailing the president’s declining support.

Trump is leading Biden in polls by NBC News, Quinnipiac, Fox News and Morning Consult, the Daily Caller noted.

“As a member of House Democratic Leadership, I supported and promoted the Biden agenda,” Phillips posted. “I campaigned for him, voted for him, and respect him. But how can anyone read this and conclude he’s positioned to defeat Donald Trump?”

“It’s delusional,” Phillips added.

On October 26, Phillips declared his candidacy to challenge Biden, expressing concerns about Biden’s age and his viability in winning the 2024 election. Notably, Marianne Williamson, a writer and self-help guru, is also vying for the Democratic nomination against Biden.

Biden has experienced a series of falls, including one at the Air Force Academy on June 1. Additionally, he fell from his bike in June 2022 and encountered stumbling incidents on the steps of Air Force One on two occasions. As a result, Biden has made adjustments, such as using a different set of stairs onto the VC-25, which serves as Air Force One, among other concessions to accommodate his age.

Biden is also facing third-party competition from candidates with more liberal stances. This includes environmental advocate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and professor Cornel West, both running as independents. Additionally, Jill Stein, the 2016 Green Party presidential candidate, has declared her intention to seek the party’s nomination in the 2024 election.

Interestingly, the NBC poll found that more young people (aged 18-34) support Trump than Biden, a huge turnaround.

The poll says that 46 percent of respondents in this age group would vote for Trump, while 42 percent would vote for Biden in a hypothetical general election matchup. Notably, Trump leads Biden 46 to 44 percent in the same hypothetical scenario.
