Washington, D.C.’s woke mayor just put tens of thousands of public school students — and their parents — in a huge bind days before school is scheduled to begin for the academic year.
According to reports, Mayor Muriel Bowser has decided that kids 12 and older who don’t have documentation of a COVID vaccine or recent booster within the first 20 days of school will be denied in-person learning — without providing them with a learning alternative.
The Daily Signal reported that the mayor said during a press conference this week that an alternative plan for students who can’t attend in-person classes had not yet been worked out.
When the outlet asked Bowser about the plan for unvaccinated students before school starts on Monday, she replied: “They can go to school on Monday, but they need to get their vaccinations…and their families will be alerted as to the dates.”
She added defiantly: “We’re not offering remote learning for children, and families will need to comply with what is necessary to come to school.”

The District of Columbia Public Schools issued a press release Thursday in which Bowser said that she and the districts are “excited to welcome our students, families, and staff back to school” while excluding those who refused to comply with the vaccine.
“The Coronavirus Immunization of School Students and Early Childhood Workers Amendment Act of 2021, which the Council passed in 2021, requires students ages 12 and older to be vaccinated against COVID-19 to attend school,” the statement noted.
Earlier this month, Democrats in the Senate blocked a provision offered by Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) that would have offered protections for D.C. school district children from the vaccine mandate, which, by the way, primarily negatively impacts minority students between the ages of 12 and 15.
But Bowser and the Democrats who run D.C. don’t care; the mandate isn’t about science, which is obvious by now given that the vaccines have never worked as advertised. It’s about power and indoctrinating another generation of American kids to accept mandates and tyrannical decisions without question.
In a statement, Cruz noted that the mandate will have further negative impacts on the affected students.
“In D.C., the rate of vaccination for students 12 to 15 is 85 percent,” Cruz said. “For African American students, the rate drops to 60 percent.”
The Daily Wire noted that D.C. Department of Health spokeswoman Kelsey Felton said that though around 85 percent of kids between 12 and 17 are vaccinated, 60 percent of black children in the same age group have already received two doses of the vaccine.
“The actual percentages are likely higher because not all vaccines administered outside of the District are known to D.C. Health,” she explained. “The race-specific coverage number is particularly likely to be an underestimate because the COVID-19 vaccination records D.C. Health does receive from outside of the District often do not include both age and race.”
President Biden issued a statement ahead of the upcoming school year this week.
“Every American age 6 months and over is eligible to get vaccinated, and everyone age 5 and over is eligible for a booster shot after completing their primary series,” he said in an Aug. 16 statement. “Getting vaccinated and staying up to date with COVID-19 vaccinations are the most important ways that we can minimize the most serious impacts that COVID-19 can have on our children, their teachers, and their school communities.”
