DA Willis Met With VP Harris Ahead of Trump Indictment: Report

Fulton County District Attorney met with Vice President Kamala Harris at the White House prior to indicting former President Donald Trump on charges related to the aftermath of the 2020 election in Georgia, reports said on Wednesday.

Ashleigh Merchant, the attorney representing a co-defendant of Trump who first brought forth allegations regarding an affair between Willis and her subordinate Nathan Wade, testified that she suspects Willis met with Harris at some stage during her investigation into the former president, citing a White House visitor log.

During a Georgia Senate hearing probing Willis’ alleged misconduct on Wednesday, Merchant referenced the White House guest list and detailed how Willis visited on February 28th, 2023, and would have undergone thorough screening procedures to arrange a meeting with Harris.

“My understanding is it’s highly regulated, who can access the White House, so you have to apply in person or apply ahead of time,” Merchant said in testimony to the Georgia Senate.

Asked if the meeting took place before the indictment of Trump, Merchant replied, “Yes.”

“Any further explanation of why Ms. Willis was meeting with the vice president of the United States?” the questioning attorney asked.

“No,” she said, adding the mayor of Atlanta, Democrat Andre Dickens, accompanied Willis.

Georgia Republicans have launched an investigation into potential ethical breaches by Willis, not solely concerning her romantic involvement with Wade, whose hiring circumstances remain unclear, but also regarding the potential misallocation of funds from other departments to finance her case against Trump.

Similarly, Republicans in the U.S. House, led by Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH), have begun a parallel inquiry into Willis’ management of federal funds. They are probing whether she collaborated with Biden Justice Department special counsel Jack Smith in coordinating her indictment.

In her testimony, Merchant detailed a witness’s recollection of the timeline of an affair between Willis and Wade. According to Merchant, one person confirmed that they met at a conference while Wade was still married, and, as per his attorney, he “was still upset at what happened in the divorce.”

“He essentially just left her after meeting Ms. Willis and dropping the kids off at college,” she said about Wade.

In August, Gingrich told Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk he had it on good authority from a reliable source that Willis was given instructions by “someone in Washington” to indict Trump before the grand jury returned with a decision.

He speculated that the reason behind the urgency was to divert attention from a mishap involving David Weiss, the U.S. attorney — who spent years investigating Hunter Biden, refused to bring any serious charges, and then cut a sweetheart plea bargain with Hunter’s defense attorneys — after he was granted special counsel status the previous Friday by Attorney General Merrick Garland.

“I am told by a reliable source that Friday evening somebody from Washington called the District Attorney of Atlanta and said, you have to indict on Monday. We have to cover up all of the mistakes we just made with Weiss,” he explained.

“And she said, apparently, ‘My jurors aren’t coming back until Tuesday,’” Gingrich continued.

“‘You didn’t hear me. You have to on Monday,’” he added, quoting the alleged Washington sources.
