Controversial Jan. 6 Figure Ray Epps To be Charged By Feds For Actions Related to Riot: Report

A controversial figure first identified by then-Fox News host Tucker Carlson as someone who could have been working undercover to induce people to storm the Capitol Building on Jan. 6 is about to be indicted by the federal government, according to a report on Thursday.

An attorney for Ray Epps, seen on video wearing a Trump hat during the Jan. 6 riot, “says that his client has been informed by federal law enforcement officials that they intend to charge him in connection with the events of that day,” the Daily Wire reported.

“The revelation was made in a lawsuit that Epps filed against Fox News on Wednesday that accused the network and former host Tucker Carlson of defaming him,” the outlet continued.

For quite some time, Epps has faced accusations from numerous individuals who claim that he is an undercover federal agent who played a role in instigating certain events on that particular day, allegations he has vehemently denied.

Buried in the lawsuit, Epps’ attorney revealed that the Department of Justice (DOJ) has recently notified Epps of its intention to prosecute him. Epps’ lawyer attributed the potential charges to Carlson’s actions.

“Finally, in May 2023, the Department of Justice notified Epps that it would seek to charge him criminally for events on January 6, 2021—two-and-a-half years later,” the lawsuit said. “The relentless attacks by Fox and Mr. Carlson and the resulting political pressure likely resulted in the criminal charges.”

Epps has been a central Jan. 6 figure since the riot.

The 62-year-old Marine veteran from Arizona is seen in several video clips from January 6 and the day before where he is seen attempting to convince Trump supporters to “go into the Capitol” the following day.

“I’ll say it. We need to go into the Capitol,” Epps exclaimed in one clip. At least four more times on video, Epps says people need to “go into the Capitol.”
