CBS News Dragged For Story On Lack Of Transgender Rights In Ukraine As Country Is Invaded

With men, women, and children dying in a European country at the hands of Russian forces, you might think that American news outlets would be laser-focused on reporting all of the details about the still-widening war.

Only, there are some aspects of the conflict that really aren’t worth reporting because in the greater scheme of things they are simply not important.

CBS News could take a lesson in how to read that room, figuratively speaking.

The super-woke network is being dragged on social media for actually focusing on the ‘plight’ of transgenders in Ukraine, even as apartment buildings were being attacked along with the country’s government and infrastructure.

“Transgender acceptance in Ukraine is not widespread, and changing legal documents to match gender requires a long process with psychiatric examinations. CBS News spoke with one woman in Kyiv who is now battling a ‘war within a war’ amid Russia’s invasion,” the network noted in a tweet containing a link to the ‘story’ and a video clip of a transgender woman.

CBS News reports:

Zi Faámelu was born and raised in Crimea, an area of Ukraine that was invaded and taken over by Russia in 2014. Now the 31-year-old lives in Kyiv, the capital city that has been under Russian siege for nearly a week. She is running out of food and hasn’t left her house for days as gunfire erupts outside.

And she says she can’t leave.

Faámelu, who is transgender, said that transphobia is pervasive in the city and neighboring countries, and fears that if she leaves, the tension of the ongoing conflict will make her more susceptible to violence. Faámelu was previously a popular contestant on the Ukrainian singing competition show “Star Factory.”

“Sometimes we think it’s just all a dream, that we’re stuck inside some kind of a video game. Because you just live in a quiet society, and then you hear bombings and you wake up to the sound of bombings,” she said. “…A few hours ago I heard bombings and my windows were shaking. … I’m literally scared for my life.”

“Many people have guns and weapons. … It can be an excuse for violence,” she said. “…This is a very scary situation.”

Wait — which is it? Ukraine is full of transgenderphobes or it’s not because, again, she was a supposed “popular contestant” on a Ukrainian singing program?

Can a country be so intolerant of transgenders and make them ‘popular’ on a widely watched program?

But at this point, does that even matter?

Look, Ukrainians of every walk of life matter in terms of this horrifically unpopular invasion by Russian President Vladimir Putin. And just because this person is transgender, that does not diminish her or her reported situation.

It’s just that is not the most important story of the moment. And while it’s understandable news networks are competitors and they are trying to get original ‘scoops,’ outside of a sliver of the American viewing public, who is this story trying to reach?

Asked another way, what is the point, given Ukraine’s current situation?

Well, you know the answer to that. The point is constant pushing of woke, left-wing cultural pabulum by the American ‘mainstream’ media, which applies to any and every situation, even when it’s entirely inappropriate. They can’t let a day can go by without attacking political opponents and Western civilization more generally.

If, in fact, transgenderphobia is a real issue in Ukraine, CBS News isn’t going to ‘fix it’ with this story. Furthermore, it’s just not going to be an issue that the vast majority of Ukrainians care about right now, given their literal life-and-death situation.
