New York Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez promoted a flyer on Instagram on Tuesday, that called on protestors to “protect” a drag queen event for children.
The flyer from “therollinglibrary” was shared by the congresswoman, and reads reads “Defend Drag Story Hour in NYC! Help protect queer spaces and expression under threat from the far right.”
The post continues, “the rolling library is a queer-led, queens-based, library-obsessed mutual aid group so yes we will standing [sic] with our comrades to defend Drag Story Hour this Thursday in Jackson Heights!!!!”

The event called for those who protest and attend to bring “rainbow swag, non-amplified noisemakers, musical instruments, joy, and love.”
The post reads: “A group of violent loud bigots, who have repeatedly harassed and invaded these events in the city is openly planning to disrupt the next Drag Story Hour, on Thursday, December 29 at Jackson Heights Library in Queens.
“Queer community members and allies will be there to show the fascists they are not welcome, but that kids and drag queens are.
“Let’s show NYC’s unwavering support for Drag Queen Story Hour and for queer and trans people, and make a safe, encouraging and joyful welcome for kids and their grownups as they enter the library.”
The Post Millennial reports that a New York “Drag Queen Story Hour” for children ended with “police intervention, after masked and hooded individuals engaged in violence with protestors.
The outlet wrote: “The altercation was interrupted by NYPD officers who jumped in between the two groups. Although several officers were present, they still struggled to keep scuffles from breaking out.
“F*ck Antifa!,” the protestors could be heard chanting. “Leave the kids alone!”
“They were also spotted carrying signs with messages such as “STOP GROOMING KIDS FOR SEX,” and “STOP INDOCTRINATION. GOD CREATED MAN & WOMAN.”
One person was quoted as, “I’m a transgender. I transitioned at a very young age, which I do regret that part. But there’s no way I would condone or support grooming of little children… let little kids be little kids.”
