ABC News: Biden Suffering Lowest Presidential Approval In 15 Years

As Iowans braved extreme cold and trudged to the polls on Monday amid the first-in-the-nation primary to select the 2024 GOP presidential nominee, a new survey finds that President Joe Biden’s approval rating is the lowest of any president in 15 years.

Biden’s approval rating currently stands at 33%, marking the lowest rating since the presidency of George W. Bush from 2006 to 2008. Additionally, Biden has a disapproval rating of 58%, Newsmax reported, citing the survey’s results.

“Such negative approval/disapproval numbers could suggest support of the current House GOP’s investigation of Biden’s alleged influence peddling and potential impeachment,” the outlet reported.

The poll indicates that 72% of Republicans favor former President Donald Trump as their preferred nominee.

In contrast, only 57% of Democrats expressed satisfaction with Biden as their party’s nominee.

Biden’s job approval rating falls 21 points below the average among Black voters, whereas it is 15 points below average among Hispanic people compared to 6 points below among white individuals.

The poll highlights a decline in Biden’s support among Black voters, once considered a reliable base for Democrats, with a particularly sharp decrease in approval among younger Black individuals:

  • 32% of Blacks under 50 approve of Biden
  • 65% of Blacks 50 and over approve of the president.

Newsmax added:

Asked about the candidates’ mental fitness for the presidency, 47% supported Trump, 77, versus 28% for Biden, 81.

On the question of physical fitness, 57% supported Trump, while 28% backed Biden.

Given that the economy is consistently a primary concern for voters in presidential elections, if not the foremost issue, Biden’s standing in this regard is very unfavorable.

A majority of the respondents, comprising 56%, expressed disapproval of Biden’s management of the economy, whereas just 31% approved.

“The poll also indicates that 71% said the economy is in bad shape, while 24% said he economy was good,” Newsmax noted, citing the data.

Earlier this month, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre defended Biden’s economic policies, urging Americans to be patient and allow more time for their effects to be felt.

Speaking with MSNBC‘s Willie Geist, she acknowledged the challenges faced by the nation, particularly the impact of the unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic, as the economy was in disarray when Biden assumed office.

Jean-Pierre emphasized the need for time for people to experience the benefits of “Bidenomics,” citing economists who assert that such policies require a period to take effect.

Despite negative polling and voters seemingly turning away from the president and the Democratic Party, she maintained that Biden is committed to addressing these concerns and completing the job.

Responding to questions about declining support among key demographics, such as Black and Latino voters, Jean-Pierre highlighted positive economic indicators.

She pointed to alleged significant reductions in unemployment rates for these communities and emphasized the administration’s focus on equity rather than equality, stating that it was central to every piece of legislation proposed by the president.
