A Los Angeles police encounter with a sleeping driver in a Lamborghini took a tragic turn when the vehicle was found stolen, and the driver, identified as 51-year-old Elliott Dugan, sped off only to meet a fatal crash moments later. The incident, which occurred on April 6, was captured on body and dashcam videos released by the police on Wednesday.

In the footage, an officer approaches Dugan’s vehicle, asking, “Do you know why I pulled you over?” Dugan denies knowledge, prompting the officer to inform him of his sleep at the wheel. Further checks revealed that Dugan had outstanding felony warrants and the Lamborghini was reported stolen, Fox reports.
Despite officers’ repeated requests for him to exit the vehicle, Dugan refused, insisting he needed a reason. Ignoring warnings, he accelerated, reaching speeds of nearly 115 mph, before crashing into the median, splitting the car in two. Dugan was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.
The wreckage scattered across the street, damaging parked vehicles and toppling a tree. Despite efforts to locate potential witnesses, none were found, and Dugan was discovered dead on a nearby sidewalk.
Records show Dugan’s history of incarceration, highlighting a pattern of brushes with the law preceding this fatal encounter.
