Biden's Approval Rating Hits All-Time Low at Only 34%

A Monmouth University poll reveals that President Biden’s approval rating has hit an all-time low, with only 34% of Americans approving of his performance, while 61% disapprove, Fox News Digital reports.

The survey, conducted from November 30 to December 4, 2023, involved 803 adult Americans, with a margin of error of plus or minus 4.8 percentage points. Biden’s ratings are notably low on specific issues, particularly immigration (26% approval) and inflation (28% approval).

Monmouth University Polling Institute Director Patrick Murray suggests that despite positive economic indicators, Americans are still impacted by post-pandemic inflation, leading to negative public opinion. Murray notes the political risk in messaging that contradicts people’s perceptions of their own situations.

Biden’s approval rating has steadily declined since his first six months in office when it hovered in the low to mid-50s. August 2021 marked a turning point with criticism over the chaotic U.S. exit from Afghanistan and a surge in COVID-19 cases.

Inflation and the Southern border crisis further contributed to the decline. The president’s approval ratings are significantly lower than his three most recent two-term predecessors – Clinton, George W. Bush, and Obama – at the same point in their presidencies.

The latest Monmouth poll follows a Wall Street Journal survey two weeks prior, where Biden’s approval stood at 37%, another all-time low.

However, a recent Fox News national poll indicated a slightly higher approval rating of 43%. Biden, 81, is seeking re-election in 2024. Former President Trump, his predecessor, currently leads in hypothetical 2024 general election matchups.

Biden dismissed poll results suggesting his lag behind Trump, stating, “You’re reading the wrong polls.”

The president’s approval ratings are influenced by events such as Afghanistan, COVID-19, inflation, and immigration, prompting concerns about his prospects for re-election in 2024.
