It’s become very clear that in the age of COVID-19, leftists are using the pandemic as a means of exercising — and justifying — their inner biases and authoritarian tendencies, all under the phony guise of ‘making American society better.’
That includes religious organizations, by the way.
According to the Washington Free Beacon, SSM Health (which stands for ‘Sisters of St. Mary’), a nominally Catholic hospital group that operates 23 facilities across Illinois, Missouri, Oklahoma, and Wisconsin, recently decided to drop its race-based COVID-19 treatments after being threatened with a potentially crushing discrimination lawsuit:
One of the largest hospital systems in the United States gave race more weight than diabetes, obesity, asthma, and hypertension combined in its allocation scheme for COVID treatments, only to reverse the policy after threats of legal action.
[SSM Health] … began using the scoring system last year to allocate scarce doses of Regeneron, the antibody cocktail that President Donald Trump credited for his recovery from COVID-19. A patient must score at least 20 points to qualify for the drug. The rubric gives three points to patients with diabetes, one for obesity, one for asthma, and one for hypertension, for a total of six points. Identifying as “Non-White or Hispanic” race, on the other hand, nets a patient seven points, regardless of age or underlying conditions.
The health system noted in a Dec. 30 email to physicians that the company planned to use the same grading rubric for Sotrovimab, a monoclonal antibody treatment that is reportedly very effective against the newly dominant omicron variant of the virus.
“hose plans appear to have changed, however, after pressure from the Wisconsin Institute for Law and Liberty, a conservative legal nonprofit that on Jan. 14 threatened SSM Health with a lawsuit. Hours after the group demanded SSM ‘immediately suspend the use of’ it’s ‘immoral’ and ‘illegal’ risk calculator, the health system told the Wisconsin State Journal that the ‘race and gender criteria are no longer utilized,'” the Free Beacon reported.
It’s hard to believe that a Christian organization would condone blatant racism under the phony guise of ‘combatting racism,’ but here were are.
And by the way, it’s hard to single out SSM Health because other hospitals are implementing similarly racist treatment policies, all compliments of the Biden regime.
Per the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, COVID-19, you see, affects people differently based solely on their skin color, not their lifestyles and risk factors:
Conditions in the places where people live, learn, work, play, and worship affect a wide range of health risks and outcomes, such as COVID-19 infection, severe illness, and death. These conditions are known as social determinants of health. Long-standing systemic health and social inequities have put many people from racial and ethnic minority groups at increased risk of getting sick from COVID-19.
The highest percent of COVID-19 cases are among non-Hispanic White people. However, racial and ethnic minority groups are disproportionately represented among COVID-19 cases.
Translation: ‘Systemic racism is responsible for the spread of, and negative outcomes from, COVID-19.” Got it.
Again, this pablum is coming from a federal government agency.
The same racial BS is also coming from the Food and Drug Administration.
“The FDA has acknowledged that in addition to certain underlying health conditions, race and ethnicity ‘may also place individual patients at high risk for progression to severe COVID-19.’ FDA’s acknowledgment means that race and ethnicity alone, apart from other underlying health conditions, may be considered in determining eligibility for mAbs,” the guidelines state.
So, to summarize, the Biden administration’s COVID-19 policies are a self-fulfilling prophecy: There is systemic racism (mostly against white people) because the Biden regime is creating it.
At least in the SSM Health case, the pushback to this insanity has begun.
