Three individuals have been detained following a machete assault in New York City’s Times Square that left a man seriously injured on Thursday afternoon, police reported.
An unidentified man sustained machete wounds to both legs around 1 p.m. near the intersection of 45th Street and Broadway, a New York Police Department (NYPD) representative told USA TODAY. He was transported by EMS to a hospital and was in stable condition, according to the spokesperson.

As of Thursday afternoon, no charges had been filed in connection with the case, the NYPD spokesperson informed USA TODAY.
The motive for the attack remains unclear, and the investigation is ongoing, police stated.
