WATCH: WH Says VP Harris Visited Bakery but not Border Because She’s “Allowed” to Have a Snack

White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said Vice President Kamala Harris visited a Chicago bakery before visiting the crisis-ridden U.S. border because, “like many Americans, she got a snack.”

Psaki was asked by New York Post reporter Steven Nelson why Harris, who was named border crisis manager two weeks ago, has yet to visit the border.

“She hasn’t visited the border or Central America or spoken with leaders of El Salvador or Honduras,” said Nelson. “She was traveling this week, took time to visit a bakery in Chicago. I’m wondering, is she still working on this and can you address the perception that she’s sort of quietly backing off while [DHS] Secretary Mayorkas is pursuing some Trump-era policies?”

Psaki responded, ‘The vice president was visiting Chicago, actually, to talk about COVID and the importance of communities getting the vaccine when it’s available and accessible to them.’

‘So, while she was there, like many Americans, she got a snack.’

The crisis at the U.S. border is growing by the day, and border crossings in March jumped to the highest level in 15 years—with over 171,000 illegal migrants apprehended.

In recent weeks, a six-month-old migrant baby was tossed into the Rio Grande River by human traffickers and rescued by border agents. The child’s mother also suffered a broken leg affer being assaulted by the smugglers. Two Ecuadorian sisters were thrown over a 14-foot border wall by human traffickers and left to fend for themselves. A sobbing young boy was also found alone on a dirt road in Texas and told border agents he was abandoned by the group he came with and was scared he would get kidnapped.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem like the Biden Administration is taking the border crisis seriously.

In fact, when asked recently when she plans on visiting the border, Harris laughed and said, “Um, not today. But I have before and I’m sure I will again.”
