Former Hawaii congresswoman and 2020 Democratic presidential contender Tulsi Gabbard announced Tuesday she has left the party in a scathing video posted to her social media accounts.

Gabbard, who served Hawaii’s second congressional district and served two combat tours as a member of the Hawaii Army National Guard and Army Reserve in the Middle East, also encouraged other “independent-minded” Democrats to follow her out of the party.

“I can no longer remain in today’s Democratic Party that is now under the complete control of an elitist cabal of warmongers driven by cowardly wokeness, who divide us by racializing every issue and stoke anti-white racism, actively work to undermine our God-given freedoms, are hostile to people of faith and spirituality, demonize the police and protect criminals at the expense of law-abiding Americans, believe in open borders, weaponize the national security state to go after political opponents, and above all, dragging us ever closer to nuclear war,” she said in her video.

“I believe in a government that is of, by, and for the people. Unfortunately, today’s Democratic Party does not. Instead, it stands for a government of, by, and for the powerful elite. I’m calling on my fellow common sense independent-minded Democrats to join me in leaving the Democratic Party. If you can no longer stomach the direction that so-called woke Democratic Party ideologues are taking our country, I invite you to join me,” the former lawmaker added.

Gabbard has long become a critic of her former party. In July, for instance, she lashed out at the far-left Democratic faction for its embrace of chemical and surgical gender alterations of children.

“Now, if you haven’t heard about it, or, if you missed it, it is because the mainstream media and the Biden-Harris administration have been completely silent on it, and this warning that the FDA issued was basically saying that puberty blockers can cause serious health risks for our kids,” she said in July. “Unfortunately, at almost the exact same time the FDA issued this warning, Biden-Harris administration officials were making public statements actively promoting the use of puberty blockers and irreversible surgeries for kids.”

She has also ripped Vice President Kamala Harris after she claimed the U.S. border was “secure.”

“Kamala Harris’ statement that ‘we have a secure border’ is further evidence that she’s either completely disconnected from reality or she’s blatantly lying,” she said. “Either way, she has no business being a heartbeat away from the presidency.”
