Trump Announces Return To Site Of Attack For Another Rally

Former President Donald Trump will return to Butler, Pa., in the coming days to finish a rally that was cut short by an assassination attempt two weeks ago, according to reports.

Trump announced his return to the site of the July 13 assassination attempt that left him with a gunshot wound to his right ear, which was inflicted by gunman Thomas Crooks, 20, firing from a rooftop less than 150 yards away from his stage.

His announcement came early Friday evening on Truth Social. The former president expressed his intention to honor the memory of former volunteer fire chief Corey Comperatore, who lost his life in the attack, along with two other attendees at the rally who sustained injuries.

“I WILL BE GOING BACK TO BUTLER, PENNSYLVANIA, FOR A BIG AND BEAUTIFUL RALLY, HONORING THE SOUL OF OUR BELOVED FIREFIGHTING HERO, COREY, AND THOSE BRAVE PATRIOTS INJURED TWO WEEKS AGO. WHAT A DAY IT WILL BE — FIGHT, FIGHT, FIGHT! STAY TUNED FOR DETAILS,” Trump posted in all caps on his account.

The Secret Service has faced criticism for security failures at the July 13 rally, including allegations that they left the rooftop allegedly used by the gunman because of the heat and turned down offers from local agencies to deploy drones for security purposes. Additionally, it has been reported that the Secret Service rejected requests from Trump’s detail for extra security at his events.

Several attendees of the rally reportedly witnessed the shooter, who was being pointed out to local law enforcement ahead of the attack. The Secret Service detail on the scene was reportedly aware of the would-be assassin nearly an hour before the attack.

The House of Representatives passed a resolution Wednesday establishing a bipartisan task force to investigate the attack on Trump. Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle resigned earlier this week following a fiery House committee hearing where both Democrats and Republicans called out the agency’s failures over the assassination attempt.
