Texas Gov. Abbott Expands Migrant Busing Initiative to New York City Amid Dem Complaints

The governor of Texas is expanding his campaign to ensure that Democrats who are all for open borders but who do not have to bear the brunt of such a policy actually get to experience what it’s like to be inundated with illegal migrants.

Earlier this year, GOP Gov. Greg Abbott and his Arizona counterpart, Gov. Doug Ducey, began sending busloads of illegal aliens to Washington, D.C., so that Democratic lawmakers and officials in the nation’s capital would see first-hand some of what their states have had to deal with.

Naturally, because they are hypocrites, Democratic leaders in D.C. and beyond began complaining that the migrants were quickly overwhelming their public services such housing, healthcare, and food assistance — all things that Texas and Arizona mayors and civic leaders have been dealing with for more than 18 months following Joe Biden’s day one reversals of former President Donald Trump’s immigration and border enforcement policies.

Scores of migrants were summarily deposited in New York City — Abbott says by the Biden administration — leading to criticism from Mayor Eric Adams, who called the Texas governor a “coward” for allegedly ‘failing’ to accommodate for hundreds of thousands of illegal migrants over the past year-and-a-half. Of course, that allegation isn’t true; Texas communities daily deal with hundreds or thousands of migrants.

But in response to Adams’ critique, Abbott is now sending busloads of migrants to the Big Apple as well, according to The Epoch Times, which notes:

Texas authorities on Aug. 5 said its first group of illegal immigrants would be transported to New York City, expanding a program that has drawn criticism from Democrats.

The group was going to be dropped off on Friday morning at Port Authority Bus Terminal, in the borough of Manhattan, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott said.

Texas in April started dropping off illegal aliens in Washington near the U.S. Capitol.

Abbott, a Republican, said at the time that the program, which immigrants volunteer for, is meant to take the illegal immigration crisis to President Joe Biden’s doorstep.

“Because of President Biden’s continued refusal to acknowledge the crisis caused by his open border policies, the State of Texas has had to take unprecedented action to keep our communities safe,” Abbott noted in a statement, according to The Epoch Times.

“In addition to Washington, D.C., New York City is the ideal destination for these migrants, who can receive the abundance of city services and housing that Mayor Eric Adams has boasted about within the sanctuary city. I hope he follows through on his promise of welcoming all migrants with open arms so that our overrun and overwhelmed border towns can find relief,” Abbott added.

The outlet reported that more than 4,000 illegal migrants have been driven to Washington from Texas and Arizona, officials noted last month. The influx into the nation’s capital has led D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser to request National Guard assistance to deal with the surge after she said the city’s support systems had become overwhelmed.

D.C., as well as New York City, are both self-designated “sanctuary cities,” meaning leaders there have adopted policies that welcome illegal immigrants while officials there refuse to cooperate with federal immigration authorities to crack down on those who do not have permission to be in the country.

For his part, Abbott has invited both Adams and Bowser to Texas to tour the border areas so they can see for themselves the gravity of the problem his state is facing thanks to absolutely no help from the Biden regime or its appointed ‘border czar,’ Vice President Kamala Harris.

Bowser hasn’t responded yet, according to reports, but Adams immediately took the cowardly way out.

“Instead of a photo-op at the border, we hope Governor Abbott will focus his energy and resources on providing support and resources to asylum seekers in Texas as we have been hard at work doing in New York City,” a spokesman for the mayor said, according to The Epoch Times.

“We continue to work with federal partners to receive additional financial resources immediately, but will never turn our backs on those in need who are arriving here,” the spokesman noted further.
