Spanish TV Reporter Says Liberal Martha's Vineyard Residents Privately Fuming Over Migrants

While liberal residents of the ritzy island community of Martha’s Vineyard outwardly appear to be welcoming a group of illegal migrants sent there via plane by GOP Gov. Ron DeSantis this week, privately they are fuming and don’t want the migrants there.

Cristina Londoño Rooney of Telemundo, speaking outside of St. Andrew’s church, where some 50 migrants are currently staying, said that island residents don’t want to appear on camera complaining about not wanting them there out of fears of appearing “inhumane.”

“A furious man passed by just a short time ago. He said that his children had to leave this island because there are no jobs or housing, and now they bring these migrants over, deceiving them with those promises,” she said.

“There are also others who blame the Biden Administration, saying it’s their fault, they don’t want the migrants here. But they don’t want to speak on-camera, either because they don’t want to be depicted as inhumane,” she added, according to Breitbart News.

On Thursday, Lisa Belcastro, the homeless shelter coordinator for Martha’s Vineyard, lamented the presence of the migrants because she said there is no place for them to stay long-term.

“At some point in time they have to move from here to somewhere else,” she told reporters. “We don’t have the services to take care of 50 immigrants. We certainly don’t have housing. We’re in a housing crisis as we are on this island, so we can’t house everyone here that lives here and works here. We don’t have housing for 50 more people.”

Christina Pushaw, communications director for DeSantis’ reelection campaign, highlighted the Democratic enclave’s hypocrisy when it comes to illegal immigrants, while also suggesting a housing option.

“Martha’s Vineyard claims to be a ‘sanctuary’ jurisdiction that welcomes illegal aliens. Most of those multi million dollar mansions are summer homes that are vacant most of the year. They can be used to house thousands of illegal migrants. Time to walk the walk, Biden voters,” she tweeted.

Others also pointed out the hypocrisy.

Island officials have deemed having to deal with 50 migrants a “humanitarian crisis.”
