California Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom burnished his party’s reputation for supporting irreversible gender mutilation surgery for children earlier this week.
On Thursday, Newsom signed legislation that essentially turns California into a sanctuary for child gender surgery, The Daily Wire reported.
The measure places restrictions on California officials as well as health providers from assisting with out-of-state efforts to block children from taking part in ‘gender health services’ to include cross-sex hormones, puberty blockers, and gender surgeries.
“In California we believe in equality and acceptance. We believe that no one should be prosecuted or persecuted for getting the care they need — including gender-affirming care,” Newsom declared in a signing message.
“Parents know what’s best for their kids, and they should be able to make decisions around the health of their children without fear. We must take a stand for parental choice,” the governor added.
In fact, when parents are not given the correct information or all of the available information because of politics or ideology, then it’s impossible for them to make a fully informed decision.
The Daily Wire notes further:
The law prohibits health care providers from releasing medical information about a child receiving gender health services in response to a criminal or civil action from a state where such care is restricted.
The bill also bans police from arresting or extraditing someone based on another state’s restrictions for providing gender health services to a child. The law also prohibits California officials from enforcing another state’s order that a child be removed from parents who allow the child to receive gender health services.
Besides objecting to the fact that children should not be subjected to any ‘gender’ surgery that permanently alters their bodies, critics also cited a number of provisions within the law that pertain to the custody of children who are receiving care for gender ‘health.’ For instance, the measure empowers courts to take “temporary jurisdiction because a child has been unable to obtain gender-affirming care.”
So much for Newsom’s “stand for parental choice.”
The law was sponsored by a Democratic state senator who has a history of perverted sexual viewpoints regarding children.
In 2020, Sen. Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco) sponsored legislation stating that adults who engage in oral or anal sex with a child 10 years younger than them would not have to register as a sex offender, leaving the decision to judges. He claimed that the law was intended to address alleged discrimination against LGTBQ individuals.
Newsom signed that measure, too.
In remarks regarding the current child gender surgery bill, Weiner admitted it could run into some constitutional limitations.
“We may have limits under the U.S. Constitution, but we are going to go right up to the edge of what we’re able to do to protect them and say, ‘Unless we are absolutely forced to send you back, we are not going to send you back,’” he said.
Conservatives have clapped back, accusing California Democrats of actually infringing on the rights of parents to protect their kids from life-altering and potentially harmful medical procedures.
“SB 107 is one of the gravest threats to parental rights in recent years,” said Jonathan Keller, president of the California Family Council.
“If Governor Newsom foolishly signs this measure, California should brace for lawsuits. Other states’ Attorneys General will not sit idly by as California steals children from parents who don’t want them sterilized with these trans-treatments.”
It’s likely the law will face legal challenges since the U.S. Supreme Court has previously ruled that states must recognize the laws of other states when their residents travel.
Over the summer, Newsom signed several bills aimed at ensuring California remains an abortion sanctuary as well.
