Facebook is creating a very dangerous jury of peers. Facebook is so concerned that you are not being manipulated, that they are manipulating you into thinking you are being manipulated.

Messages now pop up asking users “are you concerned that someone you know is becoming an extremist?” The message continues, “We care about preventing extremism on Facebook. Others in your situation have received confidential support.” The message adds a “how you can help” information icon that reads, “hear stories and get advice from people who escaped violent extremist groups.”

Another message users may receive has a headline stating, “you may have been exposed to harmful extremist content recently.” Underneath the jarring phrase reads, “violent groups try to manipulate your anger and disappointment. You can take action now to protect yourself and others.” The information icon for this message is how to “get support from experts. Spot the signs, understand the dangers of extremism and hear from people who escaped violent groups.”
