Large Number of Dems Say Manhattan DA Prosecuting Trump Would Be a Bad Thing

According to a survey conducted by Rasmussen Reports on Monday, Democrats appear to be split on the possibility of leftist Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg indicting former President Trump, with 46% believing it would constitute an “outrageous abuse of power” by a radical DA.

The survey results revealed a division among respondents, with 49 percent in favor of pursuing criminal charges against Trump in the Stormy Daniels case, while 47 percent opposed such action.

Breitbart News noted that despite 78 percent of Democrats at least partially supporting the prosecution, 46 percent of them believe that it would be an “outrageous abuse of power by a radical DA who prioritizes political revenge against President Trump over pursuing violent criminals who are free.”

In total, 59 percent of respondents indicated some level of agreement that prosecuting Trump in this case would be an “outrageous abuse of power by a radical DA who lets violent criminals walk as he pursues political vengeance.” Among Republicans, the agreement rate was 77 percent, and among Independents, it was 55 percent,” Breitbart noted further, citing the survey.

“Notably, 52 percent of Democrats disagree, as do 20 percent of Republicans and 39 percent of independents,” the outlet reported.

The survey also revealed that voters are divided on whether they believe Trump committed crimes that warrant prosecution, with 51 percent believing it is somewhat probable and 45 percent believing it is not very probable.

“Attitudes toward Bragg’s case against Trump are largely divided along party lines. While a majority (52%) of Democrats say it is Very Likely that Trump committed crimes, that belief is shared by only 14% of Republicans and 31% of voters not affiliated with either major party,” Rasmussen noted.

“Similarly, 58% of Democrats, but just 15% of Republicans and 29% of unaffiliated voters, Strongly Approve of the Manhattan DA bringing criminal charges against Trump,” the pollster continued.

“However, there is more consensus when it comes to McCarthy’s description of Bragg’s case. Seventy-seven percent (77%) of Republicans, 46% of Democrats and 55% of unaffiliated voters at least somewhat agree that prosecuting Trump in Manhattan would be ‘an outrageous abuse of power,'” the pollster added.

The outlet added that an earlier survey by another firm found that the vast majority of respondents thought an indictment would either help Trump or at least not hurt his 2024 presidential campaign.
