“As the only candidate in this race endorsed by President Trump, it is time to rally behind JD Vance for U.S. Senate in Ohio,” Hawley said in a statement shared by Vance’s campaign. “J.D. will make a great Senator, and I look forward to joining him in the Buckeye State.”

Meanwhile, Kirk called Vance a “proud America-First champion” in a statement also shared by the Vance campaign.

“I proudly endorsed J.D. in this critical race in September, and I’m excited to get to Ohio to help get his message out to voters and secure his victory on May 3,” Kirk noted.

On Wednesday, Vance’s campaign also noted that Reps. Majorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) and Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) will stump with the candidate at a series of events on Saturday.

These rallies come on the heels of one attended by Trump last weekend which drew a large crowd.

When Trump endorsed noted author J.D. Vance out of a fairly crowded field of GOP hopefuls vying for the U.S. Senate seat of retiring Republican Sen. Rob Portman, critics thought perhaps the former president was making an error in judgment given that Vance was polling towards the bottom of the pack.

But in the week following that endorsement, Vance’s stock has risen and he now leads the GOP primary field, according to a Politico report:

He was lagging in the polls. His cash was running low. With the state’s primary fast approaching, J.D. Vance’s chances of winning the Ohio GOP Senate nomination didn’t look promising.

But his fortunes have changed dramatically in just the last week since Donald Trump delivered his endorsement, an intervention that has upended one of the most contentious Republican primaries in the nation.

More than $5 million in new donations have poured into a pro-Vance super PAC — just weeks earlier, it had spent nearly all of its available funds. Vance, the author of the book “Hillbilly Elegy,” has taken the lead in polling for the first time since entering the crowded Republican primary in July.

During Trump’s rally on behalf of Vance, he noted that the GOP Senate candidate had, in the past, “said some bad s**t” about him, but that he had come around to his ‘MAGA’ perspective.

“The president is right. I wasn’t always nice, but the simple fact is, he’s the best president of my lifetime, and he revealed the corruption in this country like nobody else,” Vance acknowledged during the rally.
