IRS Whistleblower Goes On Camera To Talk About Hunter Biden Allegations

An IRS whistleblower who says that the investigation into alleged illegalities involving first son Hunter Biden revealed his identity when he went on camera with his allegations Wednesday evening.

Gary Shapley, a supervisory special agent, discussed his case and subsequent treatment with CBS News just over a week after he publicly stated that his entire team was unexpectedly taken off the case following the Department of Justice’s (DOJ) directive.

“There were multiple steps that were slow-walked,” he said, insisting it was done “at the direction of the Department of Justice.”

While Gary Shapley refrained from publicly disclosing the specific subject of the inquiry he was involved in due to tax secrecy laws, media reports have confirmed that Hunter Biden is the individual in question.

Following the 2020 election, Hunter Biden, the son of President Joe Biden, publicly acknowledged that federal investigators were examining his tax affairs. Despite the investigation, Hunter has expressed his belief that he will ultimately be exonerated from any allegations of misconduct. U.S. Attorney David Weiss, based in Delaware, is leading the investigation into the matter.

Shapley, a 14-year veteran of the IRS, revealed that he was assigned to the case in January 2020. As the investigation progressed, he started to express concerns about apparent “deviations” in the investigative procedures. “Each and every time, it seemed to always benefit the subject,” he told the outlet.

“I just couldn’t, you know, fathom that DOJ might be acting unethically on this,” Shapley added.

The Daily Wire noted further:

Last month it first became public that Shapley was seeking to make protective whistleblower disclosures to Congress and had already contacted multiple inspectors general. Beyond allegations of preferential treatment and “politics improperly infecting decisions,” lawyers for Shapley said their client had information that would “contradict sworn testimony to Congress by a senior political appointee” identified as Attorney General Merrick Garland, who has pledged not to interfere with the investigation.

According to Shapley, he began to experience acts of retaliation, starting with a meeting and subsequent phone call in October 2022. During these interactions, it was revealed to the U.S. attorney that both the IRS and FBI had expressed concerns regarding the handling of the case. Following this disclosure, Shapley’s team was excluded from further discussions related to prosecution.

Furthermore, in a recent letter addressed to the U.S. Office of Special Counsel, one of Shapley’s lawyers stated that his entire team was dismissed from the case last week, the Daily Wire added.

As per a letter sent by Shapley’s lawyers to Congress, he will participate in a private meeting with the House Ways and Means Committee on Friday.
