Iowa Passes Legislation Banning Biological Boys From Competing In Girl's Sports

Once upon a time, the Democratic Party fought for women’s rights because it was an equality thing, but the party has been taken over by radical left-wing elements who are working overtime to destroy five decades’ worth of progress.

Today’s Democrats practice ‘divide and conquer’ politics, identifying so-called ‘victim’ groups and pitting them against everyone else while taking a flamethrower to the social fabric of our nation. Most recently, they have focused their attention on the “LGBTQ+” community, and in doing so, are taking that same flamethrower to all-girls competition that Democrats of old fought to preserve and elevate back in the day.

Fortunately, there is a political party — the Republican Party — whose members have become the preeminent defenders of women’s rights and all-girls competition, as evidenced by red state legislatures stepping up.

The latest to do so is Iowa, whose GOP governor, Kim Reynolds, signed a measure on Thursday defending girl’s sports by barring biological males from competing in them.

“This is a victory for girls’ sports in Iowa. No amount of talent, training or effort can make up for the natural physical advantages males have over females. It’s simply a reality of human biology,” Reynolds said in a statement. “Forcing females to compete against males is the opposite of inclusivity and it’s absolutely unfair.”

The Daily Wire adds:

The move makes Iowa the 11th state in the nation to ban biological males from women’s sports.

HF 2416 protects girls’ sports programs at every school level in Iowa, including in high school and in college sports. Student-athletes must participate in sports based on the biological sex listed on their birth certificate, according to the new law.

The bill also requires schools to designate sporting events as either co-ed, male, or female.

The statement notes further: “This bill requires schools at all levels to designate sporting events as male, female, or co-ed. Only students who are female according to their birth certificate will be eligible to compete in girls sports. No student will be prevented from playing a sport that matches his or her biological sex, or a sport designated as co-ed.”

Naturally, and on cue, the deranged left exploded in disgust and condemnation, because hypocrisy is a thing with them.

State elected officials need to stop targeting trans youth and their families,” said GLAAD President and CEO Sarah Kate Ellis. “As a parent, my heart goes out to all the young people in Iowa who were just cruelly kicked out of school sports by the unjustified law @IAgovernor Kim Reynolds signed today.”

The Iowa chapter of the ACLU added: “To transgender youth in Iowa: You belong in our state, in our schools, and on our sports teams. We’ve got your back.’

Conservative groups punched back, however, and hailed Iowa’s decision to protect girls from unfair competition.

The American Principles Project celebrated the news, noting that “Iowa has become the 11th state in America to protect the integrity of female athletics.”

“It worries me that this bill is needed at all,” Reynolds said Thursday as she signed the bill. “It’s hard to imagine how anyone who cares about the rights of women and girls could support anything less.”

Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Idaho, Mississippi, Montana, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, and West Virginia have each passed similar laws, though Idaho’s law is held up by a legal challenge. Also, at least 29 states have crafted, passed, or are in the process of passing legislation to protect women’s sports.
