Texas Gov. Greg Abbott Announces Plans to Send More Illegals to Sanctuary Cities

Texas Governor Greg Abbott has announced plans to transport illegal immigrants to sanctuary cities, such as New York City and Chicago, as Title 42, which allowed officials to remove illegal immigrants over health concerns, is set to expire on Thursday.

Speaking at a press conference, Abbott criticized the Biden administration for “laying down a welcome mat to people across the entire world” by ending Title 42, which he believes will lead to an “incredible amount of people” crossing the border illegally.

According to reports, Abbott began relocating illegal immigrants flooding into Texas in April and has already transported thousands of them to cities such as New York, Chicago, and Washington DC.

He warned that “many thousands more will be bussed in the coming days because of the massive influx of illegal migrants.”

Abbott has also deployed the Texas National Guard to the US-Mexico border, in anticipation of the expected influx of illegal immigrants.

He believes that up to 13,000 people may try to cross the border each day, with a total of 4.74 million expected in 2023. In 2022, 2,378,944 illegal immigrant encounters were reported, while in 2021, 1,659,206 were reported. In the last ten days alone, 81,000 people have attempted to cross the border, and cities such as El Paso, Laredo, and Brownsville have declared states of emergency.

Abbott’s deployment of the Texas National Guard includes a team known as the Tactical Border Force, which will use C-130 Hercules aircraft and Black Hawk Helicopters to intercept, repel, and turn back migrants attempting to enter the US illegally.

The move has been criticized by NYC Mayor Eric Adams, who declared a state of emergency in October 2022, as the city struggled to cope with the number of illegal immigrants being bussed in. However, Abbott remains committed to his plan, saying that it is necessary to address the border crisis and prevent further illegal immigration into the United States.
