Gavin Newsom Warns Dems Fox News Hosts Are Dominating Political Conversation: 'We Are Getting Crushed'

California Gov. Gavin Newsom, whose name has been mentioned as a possible contender for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2024, warned his party that Fox News hosts are so popular they are dominating the political conversation in the country.

“These guys are ruthless on the other side. Ruthless on the other side,” Newsom said during an appearance at an event sponsored by the Texas Tribune, a left-wing non-profit media outlet.

“That prime-time lineup by Fox, they’re ruthless,” he noted further, according to The Hill. “They dominate the most important thing in American politics today, and that’s the narrative. Facts become secondary to narrative. They dominate with illusion and we are getting crushed. We are on the defense over and over again.”

He then called on Democrat-leaning hosts to go on the offense to try and regain control of the political conversation.

“Where are we? Where are we organizing, bottom up, a compelling alternative narrative? Where are we going on the offense every single day? They’re winning right now,” he added.

“They want to bring us back to the pre-1960s,” Newsom continued. “We have to meet this moment head on, and damn it, the Democratic Party has to assert itself much more aggressively than we have.”

Pre-1960s, by the way, was an era of emerging civil rights, two-parent families, low divorce rates, non-existent abortions, much higher high school graduation rates, better primary education outcomes, less filth in entertainment, and a still-active, Democrat-dominated Ku Klux Klan. What a horrible period, indeed.

The Blaze adds that Newsom shot down reports that he’s interested in running for president in 2024 and 2028.

As for Fox News hosts crushing it, he’s right about that. The network has dominated its cable news competitors for years, but since Joe Biden took office, the ratings beat-down only increased.

“FOX News Channel (FNC) finished August 2022 as the third most-watched network in all of television during weekday primetime, outpacing ABC and trailing only CBS and NBC. According to Nielsen Media Research, FNC remained cable’s highest-rated network in total day and primetime with total viewers and the top-rated in total day with the 25-54 demo. FNC surpassed CNN and MSNBC combined with total day and primetime viewers and was number one in all of cable with total day and primetime viewers,” Fox News said in a press release earlier this month.

“FNC also ranked number one in cable news in primetime viewers for the 19th month in a row and notched 96 of the top 100 cable news telecasts for the month. Notably, FNC was the only cable news network to post double-digit gains versus last month and August marked its most-watched month of the summer with every program gaining viewers month-to-month,” the release continued.

“In total day, FNC delivered 1.5 million viewers, 211,000 with the 25-54 demo and 128,000 with the 18-49 demo. In primetime, FNC netted 2.3 million viewers, 311,000 in the 25-54 demo, and 189,000 in the 18-49 demo. The network also delivered the top four programs in cable news with viewers and the top 15 of the top 16 cable news programs in the 25-54 demo,” the network added.
