Free Speech Victory as Med School Officials Override Student Gov, Allowing ‘Students For Life’ Club On Campus

The First Amendment was victorious last week at a medical school thanks to the development of a spine by administrations.

Some students at the Midwestern University Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine are upset with their classmates who believe that the Hippocratic Oath’s principle of “do no harm” should apply throughout a person’s life, from conception to natural death, the Daily Wire reported Saturday.

However, administrators of the medical school recently reversed a decision made by the student government to prohibit the pro-life group “Midwestern Medical Students For Life” from operating on campus.

“The University and College administration met with students on both sides of this issue, explaining the guidelines and sharing their reasons for the decision to approve this new club, while assuring the students that all medical information is monitored by faculty,” the school told MedPageToday. “Both the Dean of Students and the Dean of the Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine are in support of this decision, along with the University President.”

But not all students are happy with the decision.

“It’s kind of worrisome to be endorsing [Medical Students for Life] on a medical school campus,” med school student government vice president, Alec, said to a different media outlet.

Some students who disagree with the pro-life group argue that having it on campus is “dangerous.”

“Midwestern University Medical Students for Life disseminates blatant medical misinformation and encourages violent and obstructive behavior towards clinics and providers,” a Midwestern student name Sarah claimed to Ms. Magazine.

The students alleged that Medical Students for Life promoting “Abortion Pill Reversal” is a dangerous form of misinformation, arguing that chemical abortions could not be halted, but the Charlotte Lozier Institute has disputed this claim, stating that the evidence does not support it.

Still another student said that denying somebody an abortion is a “violation of human rights.”

In an op-ed, the Daily Wire noted further:

Of course, what these students neglect to recognize is that when dealing with a pregnant woman — there are two patients: the mother and the child in the womb. Scientific data has proven that life starts at conception.

However, rather than debate facts about these issues, these students want to shut down any debate on campus. That totalitarianism is now commonplace in American society and isn’t new to higher education. As readers know, it’s now a core part of the Biden White House strategy for dealing with free speech via Big Tech.

The op-ed noted further that the concerning aspect of this story is that these students are the future healthcare providers. Their unwillingness to consider all the available data and their tendency to suppress dissenting opinions that challenge the status quo or reveal politically inconvenient truths are alarming, it added. If the attitude persists throughout their medical careers, it could spell doom for the American medical establishment and, ultimately, the patients who rely on it, the op-ed argued further.

“After seeing those same sorts of tactics from doctors and medical bureaucrats who wanted to silence COVID lockdown and vaccine skeptics, we shouldn’t be surprised,” the op-ed continued. “For its part, the school’s administration deserves credit for upholding once common values in America such as diversity of thought and free speech.”
